8. Senator, mot this evening at 7 o’olock, and
organized by electing Thomas C. Steel, of Phil
adelphia, Chairman. A motion being made to
vote by ballot, a stormy debate ensued, and the
motion finally prevailed. On the first ballot
thero were 92 votes cast, making 47 nooessary
to a choice. The vote stood—Cameron 27; Cur
tin 11; Johnson 10; Cooper 6 ; Veeoh G ; Wil
mot 6; Tiffaoy 4; Smyser, Clapp, Jayne, and
J. Pringlo Jones, eaoh 8 ; and Todd, Littell,
Evans, Darlington, Moorhead, Stevens and Ful

A resolution was then adopted not to disclose
the farther ballots. A eeohnd ballot was then
gone into. The chances are, however, that no
nomination will bo made to night.
SECOND DESPATCH.
HABBisnuna, Feb. 9-Midnight— The aeoond
ballot id tho Senatorial caucus, resulted as fol
lows Cameron 27 ; Curtin 12; Cooper 14, and
the balance scattering.
On the third ballot, Cameron had 35 votes ;
Cutlin 17; Cooper 9, and the balauco scattering
On tbe fourth, Cameron 38 votes; Curtin 22
Several unsuooessfal attempts were made~to
adjourn.
THIRD DESPATCH.
Habwsbubq, Feb. 10-1 A. M—Tho caucus
baß not yet adjourned. The fifth ballot has just
been taken, and its result has caused tho great
est excitement both in and outside the Conven
tion. The vote etood—Cameron, 46; for other
candidates, 47; making one vote more than
there were members in the caucus.
. 0n tho announcement of the result a number
of members withdrew, asserting that they were
not to be bought. There is great exoitement
prevailing, and every prospect of a row.
Another ballot has been ordered, and tho im
pression ia that Cameron will bo nominated.
H o’clock, A. M—The sixth ballot stood:
Cameron, 45; Curtin, 4G; scattering, 1. Thero
being on this ballot one fraudulent vote cast
another exciting demonstration was had, and
several members, who had been induced to return
to the Convention, again retired, declaring their
determination ta disregaro sny selection that
might bo ma e. There were 34 “bolters."
FOURTH DESPATCH.
Harrisbubo, February 10—2 A, M After
some quite angry discussion, and a iarge nnm
ber of members retiring, a seventh ballot was
ordered, which resulted as follows: Cameron 44
votes, Curtin 11, Fuller 2.
Gen. Simon Cameron was then dcoiared tho
nommeo of tbo Convention, and a resolution
unanimously adopted declaring him the nominee
of tho American parly for tho O. 8. Senate.
Tho Convention then adjourned.
The result has caused great eicitemont, aDd
there is every prospect of difficulty in the bint
convention on Tuesday.
