msyfcjßMNG POST
IDNESD-AY, MORNING::::::: FEBRUARY 7.
/'TqB Conn.Arw Book.—We have before men
tioned that a\book is kept at the New York Sta
tion House, in which any person may record hio
peculiar grievance against persona who do not
oompty witli, the legal requirements, or offioers
_.wbo neglect\their doty. One morning
papers calls this, a method of cbeap'advertising,
in which tbeV merchandise of offending shop*
keepers, is brought to the pnblic notice. The
Commercial says the book is sometimes enliven
ed by a piece of fun, like the following parody:
Last Sunday inerting eariy, at the Dutchman's oorger
store, f'
lUpped I loudly atftba windows, as I oft bod dost before,
Bat the spirits wouldn't answer, and the Dutchman snored
away, / /
And the neighbony&U.aroand me thought the4—l was to
Bnt a erxifterVX mast hare, and I swore to male him
hear, . /
As I plied my knaekles on the windows in the rear.
Xhen the Dntohman gruffly answered—with the temper of
a bear***/ j
u hsT/bitters here dia morning—Fernando Toed ts
’ Majo fF
Bnt nay alore I suffered—in thedark and wintry morn,
WithA boitie in his band, stood a ragged boy forlorn,
Whoae father had sent him—all innocent of sin—
Far an ounce or two of coffee, and a half a piut of gin.
ww X enter my complaining against inhuman laws,
>xhat would close on Sunday morning ail the corner liquor
/ stores,
And keep that ragged boy and I shif’ring in the winter's
oolil,
Knocking loudly at the window, where the people’s ram la
sold. ‘
