Y MOBBING Air TOI. NOR aiLZ AT THII3 01710 E. 14144 HAW. or ColormrmrsrOdNmsr--Aa row or a Covirmsgerm—From information roottived at the Mayor's office, in Allegheny, the Mayor was led to suppose that a young man named' hank - Silsbee, a citizen of that place, Wm extensively engaged dealing in counterfeit Mummy: On Saturday, he dispatched a posse of capers to the boarding house of Silsbee, in Du quesne Borough, to arrest that individual. Af ter searching several rooms they at last found hiMin • chamber, which was occupied in rem- Dion with person called John Taylor.. On the entrance of the officers Silsbee made ay attempt to escape by the window, but before he effected his object was seized by an officer and : sem:red. He was then searched, end on hie person was found a bundle containing one thousand counter feit one dollar notes on the Northern Bank of Kentucky, and' - fifty dollars in bills which had been altered from "ones" to "tens " A portion of this money was in his hand when he was w eeded, and he made several efforts to destroy it, but was prevented. Taylor and Silsbee wore both conveyed to the Mayor's office, but on the former giving bail for his appearance, he was released. Silsbee was committed to the Tombs to await a further examination on Tuesday. The counterfeit notes found in possession of Silsbee were rather a poor affair, and would only have deceived those not used to handling money. The paper is eomewhatehorter than the genuine, and the President's and Cashier's names are engraved. There is no doubt more of the same kind in circulation, and it would be well for the inexperienced to keep an eye for it 'Ban SOUP Krrowas.—This admirable inetitu dem is working very satisfactorily. The whole some and nutritious food administered every day by the Sooiety, is eagerly sought after by hundreds of the poor and needy. On Thursday, the first day of its operations, there were over 80 applicants ; on Friday 118,„and on Saturday 884. To this number about 500 gallons of soup, and 700 or 800 loaves of bread, have been die tributed. During the time the kitchen is open, it is densely thronged, and the soup can hardly be given out as quickly as desired by the anxious recipients. The* should be two or three more place* of the same kind started. It is decidedly a much better way of dispensing charity, than by giving it indiscriminately to beggars in the streets, among whom it is &moat impossible to tell the deserving from the imposter. A greater meant of relief can be afforded for less money, and the relief reach those who really need it. Several persons attempted to expostulate with them apon their conduct, but only received curses and threats for their pains. A young mechanic from Wood street passed about that time, and upon receiving an insulting answer to his entreaty to desist their rowdy propensities, took the matter in his own hands, and trounced one of than so severely that medical assistance etas required—the partner fired a pistol, but for tunately without effect.
