Drumm Fq 4 ttiiThe large Cabinet Ware Manufactory of 'Mr. James W. Woodwell, on Fourth etrtmscbeffireen Smithfield and Grant, wan totally destroyed by fire, yesterday evening, The fire wasdlrst discovered about six °Week. issuing frail lire windows of the second Story, in the rear part of the building. The structure, being Clad with a great quantity of itflammable and combustible material, the flames were not long extending themselves over the whole facto ry. and in half an hour afterwards, the building, with almost its entire contents, was beyond all aid: The firemen were qulokly on the ground, but finding their attempts to save the burnirg house futile, turned their attention to the adja cent buildings. upon which, notwithstanding tbe intense cold, they played with untiring exertion. The drug store ot J. Abel & Co., on the ccr- Der of Fourth and Smithfield street, was on fire several times, in the back part, but each tiros the fire wee extinguished before it gained at y headway. A small two story brick dwelling, on Fourth street, the lower story of which was occupied by Dr. Jackson, as a barber shop, was aleo saved without any material damage, although the roof was three or tour times in flames. The house of Mr. Swearington, adjoining the rear of the manufactory, and extending through to Third street, was likewise slightly injured. Mr. Woodwell'a manufactory was a four story building, extending almost from Fourth to Third streets, and was filled a large amount of lumber, finished and un ed furni ture, eta., of a very costly deesri nearly all of which was either destroyed fire or Water. In addition to this, the tools of a gre many of theworkmen employed were also co nmed. This loss will fall peculiarly heavy on the poor employees at this time of year. Were they even able to get work again in some other establish ment, the deetruction of their tools will prevent them from doing so. About sixty men were em ployed in the building, a large number of whom are thus thrown out of work, with no means of subsistence. Their case is very distressing, and should commend itself to the attention of the benevolent immediately. whii exact amount of Mr. Woodwell's loss could not be ascertained; but, it ie supposed, will not fall under $B.OOO, on which there is an insurance of $3,600 in the Associated Firemen's Company. The losses of the other persons, whose houses were damaged, is but trifling. COURT or QUARTER SZASIONS —Before Han. William B. RION.— To-night Our play-pereAr the first time in many years, will have an opportunity of witnessing the laughable delineamas of "Jim Crow Rice," the lather—we may gall him—of negro mitt etrelry. Mr. Rice was the firit german to intro duce negro ohargeters upon the stags, and those of our readers whore memories extend back that far, may yet remember the excitement he crea ted about twenty years ago, by his personation! of "Jim Crow." Although years have rol ed away moots then, old Dad," has lost none of his original powers of comicality, and can enter tain and amuse an audience as much as ever. Herr Cline, the best tight rope performer in the country, will appear batween the pieces and give some of hie astonishing feats. As dose two gentlemen have not played an engagement-in our city for some years, we an ticipate for them great moose.. In their line of character, they are certainly unparalleled. DISTRICT COUlT.—Before Hon. H. W. Wil liams. Wm. Mayer, W. C. Board, Hugh Marshall, John A. M'Kee and John Heelett, trustees of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, on the corner of Cherry , and Plum alleys vs. Jottph Wright, et al. It appears that in 1833, a difficulty arose in the congregation, then under the pastoral charge of Rev. Dr. Black, upon the question whether a member of the church could take the oath of al legiance to the Constitution of the United States, and retain his membership. On this question, a dirleion of the congregation took place, that portion who denied the right to take the oath withdrawing, and organising into a new congre gation. The present actinn is new brought to decide which branch of the congregation is en titled to the property on Ch rry alley. The case excites conaiderable interest, as the large atten dance is the Court room evidences. On trial ANOTEXIL Leettue nr Rev. Mu.
