BANDPORD'II OPERA TVOUPL—Tbe success dr
this band of minstrels in our city, during the
last two or three weeks, is unprecedented in the
history of Ethiopian exhibitions. Night after
night have they continued to draw immense
crowds at the City Hall, and the rush still seems
as pest as ever. On New Year's Day, at both
performances, the building was crowded to its
utmost capacity. To-night, that renowned and
unapproachable dancer, Dick Sliter, takes a
benefit, and offers s first rate bill. Of course
he will bare a bumper.

Message of the Governor of New York.
ALBANY, N. Y. January 2 —Governor Clark's
message shows the receipts of the general fund
to be $1,955,000, and the payments $1,817,000.
The Governor anticipates a considerable reduc
tion in the receipts, in consequence of a reduc
tion of taxes and a reduction of the receipts by
the canals. The debt of the general fund, to
the 80th September, is $6.888.0 00 . The capi
tal of the school tund is increased $42,000 du
ring the year. The receipts by the canals for
the year are $2,989,0M, and the expenditures
$1,2:88,000. The surplms does not meet the
purposes for which they were designed by
$104,000; this is attributed to the commercial
embarrassments, short crop.c, Bto. On the li
quor question the Governor &dines his views at
considerable length. He strongly advocates the
prohibition, citing many forcible arguments.
He considers the prohibition as clearly wain
the limits of the constitution, and hopes • bill
will be framed to secure itesuppremion, without
interfering with just personal rights. lie strong
ly denounces the repeal of the Miceiwiri Com
promise, and considers its restoratio.l sin:de
manded for the security, peace and pe.cmasent
welfare of the community.
