ASSAULTS AND BATTERS/N. —Christmas, as
usual with holidays, was prolific In quarrels and
fights. Some people seem as if they could Dot
enjoy a public holiday properly without getting
intoxicated, and as a necessary consequence, as;
uniting the fitst person who was unfortunate
enough to come under their notice.
C. A. Barker was held to bail, yesterday, by
Alderman Parkinson, for committing an assault
on John G. Zimmerman.
L. Lehigh°lt was held to bail, by the same
magistrate, for committing a similar offence, on
oath of Wm. Burgess.

HIGHWAY HOBBIIIIY. —Two men named Jeffer
son Collins and James Butler were held to hail,
yesterday, by Alderman Eelsley, for highway
robbery, on oath of John Wagner. The prose
cutor states that he was returning to the city,
on Christmas Day, treat a bunting excursion, by
way of the Braddook's Fields Plank Road, with
a gun on his shoulder, when a abort distance out
be was met by the defendants, who knocked him
down and robbed him of the weapon. The same
individuals were also held to bail for committing
an assault and battery with intent to kill.
Tan Gem Gamma appeared on parade, yea
hardy, iumotapaniedby the Minium° Greys, in
full dress uniform. The streets were densely
estwded with peeple.anzions to see the display.
The uniform of the Guards is a beautiful scarlet
coat and pantaloons, with hat of the same -color,
surmounted with a red and white plume; the
breast is crowed with a white belt; and the
combination of the two colors made a very hand
some contrast. They marched through all the
principal avenues, and were met everywhere
with.the greatest enthusiasm.
Leitenusr.—A man named Joseph Hartford,
who was only a few hours in the city, from Cin
cinnati, watt sent to limbb, yesterday, by Mayor
Yoh, for unlawfully appropriating to himself an
overcoat belonging to Arnold & Bon. The coat
was taken from the front of their clothing store,
on Market street. •
