TUESDAY MORNING ilir TO LBW FOB SUM AT THIS 0711 TOE. Pass RZTORS or UM HOWARD ASWOOLLTION.— Thli Atuiocia . don was organised on the 28d of Eleptember,'lB64, and during the prevalence of the Cholera. The object, to administer to the al* and destitute, and, whilst conferring relief to the bodily wants, rouse the desponding and encourage the fearful. The sickness was at its height, and prompt and mimetic' means were required and adopted. The collecting commit tees in a few days reported subscriptions to the Association of $8,664, of which there has been collected about $l,BOO. The amount collected has been expended as follows : To the Pittsburgh and Allegheny Orphan Asylum, $lOO ; St. Paul's Boman Catholic Orphan Asylum, $100; PUSS vanes -" Orphan's Home, $lOO. The remain der has been expended amongst upwards of two hundred and fifty families and persons—besides additional sums advanced and expended by re lief committees •, as also sundry articles of clo thing, the gift of unknown donors. The task of distribution is somewhat arduous, as personal examination of - all cases calling for or requiring relief has usually been made. No doubt but some have received assistance not ab solutely necessary, and the most importunate may have received more than a duo share. Yet the Board of Managers are of opinion that more Buffering has been mitigated, more real wants supplied, than would thrice the amount disbursed In careless oi-desultory charity. Most of one respectable physicians volunteer ed their services to the Association free of charge, which has been, and still continues available. During the epidemic, the hospitals were open for the reception of all patients sent by the Association, and receiving the most ten der care and nursing: And many a destitute and friendless orphan are the recipients of, and enjoy the tender care of the above named asy• lams. For the purpose of settling up the af fairs of the Association thus far, and preparing for a more systematic procedure, and to make the funds go as far as possible in affording re lief during the present winter, the Board for a few weeks had in a measure suspended opera tions, under the general rules adopted at its commencement. Bat the time has now arrived, when, owing to the extreme cold and high rates of all kinds of food, all the means at command and within the reach of the Association, will be promptly required, to enable its Managers to purchase and lay in coal, corn meal or dour, at the cheapest rates. To do this, the several, col lecting committees are earnestly requested to collect their subscriptions, and deposit the same in the hands of the Treasurer. W. F. JOHNSTON, Prat. R. CHUTZTL, B. W. This ie an action to recover damages against defendant, for marrying a son of plaintiff, while a minor, without consent of parent, contrary to the IFlState of 1729, which prescribes a penalty of £5O, old Pennsylvania currency. On trial. Lech CITT Coxxxacua Cottsem—This is the name of the new Commercial Institute started by Prof. Millar & Bro., in Lafayette Buildings. The location is one peculiarly well adapted for the purpose, and the gentlemen who are con cerned in the new institution have spared no ex pence in fitting up their rooms, which arc large, airy and comfortable, in the most complete manner, for the accommodation of their pupils. We are glad to hear that these gentlemen are meeting with the molt encouraging garnets in the establishment of their new enterprise. The number of scholars is already respectable; while the accepsions of pup. Is are rapid and regular. Nor are those applications for admis sion confined to the city alone, but are received from all parte of the country. Considering the short time it has been opened, the institution is in s remarkable prosperous condition, and under the charge of such capable instructors as Mr. Barry and Prof. M. is bound to succeed. Brea',AßT.—The house of Captain Hay, on Duqueene Way, between Pitt and Marbary streets, was entered by burglars on Monday morning about four o'clock. Fortunately, the scoundrels were discovered before they had se cured anything, and were compelled to decamp, leaving behind them the instruments with which they had effected their entrance—a pair of gloves and a skeleton key. They entered by way of the basement kitchen, by forcing off a shutter. SLIPPERY Pxyzazzars.—The present disagree able weather, of intermissions of rain and freez ing, has rendered the pavements almost imps's sable to pedestrians, and grea:oantion is requir ed in making a journey along the streets. We observe a great many persons have strewn ashes in front of their doors, for which they deserve, and no doubt receive the thanks of those travel ing past. The example is worthy of being fol lowed by others. Accinxter.—A boy named John Can, while skating on the Allegheny river yesterday, near Herr's Island, broke through the ice. A com panion who was with him, observing his disap pearance, went to his rescue, and succeeded in getting him out, just as he was on the point of going under the ice. From the excessive cold, and hie exertions to relieve himself, the lad was sa exhausted that he had to be carried home. Tara Caas.—The slippe,y state of the pave ments at present is fruitful of accidents and mishaps.
