Rain. —The rain so ardently and anxiously
looked for, has at last oome with a “ rush the
windows of heaven have been opened to their
widest extent; and the waters poured down with
a “ looseness,” truly refreshing and gratifying
to ou£ so long * dried up ” river men. Althongh
late in coming, it seems determined to make up
for lost time, and we may confidently anticipate
its continuance, until the rivers rise sufficient to
once more float off our noble steamers, after be
ing compelled to remain inactive for an unpre
cedented long period.
We have too long neglected to call the atten
tion of the ladies to the new Trimming Store re
cently opened by our young friend, Frank Van
Gorder, on Market street, corner of tb@ Dia
mond. We took-a look through the atook of
trimmingß, embroideries and fanoy goods, and
can safely say that they are unsurpassed by any
that we have seen, and from onr knowledge of
Frank and Mr. Cree, we can assure the laJiee
that they will receive all the attention possible,
attheir'hands. Retail dealers in woolen yarns
will do well to notice his advertisement to be
found in oar paper this morning.
Another Burglary. —An entrance was effect
ed into the honse of Mrs. Irwin, Centre Avenue,
on Friday night, bat found nothing worth steal

The proprietor of this popular establishment de

his friends and the public at large, lie has now.
however, the pleasure to say that he is convnl

HP R Y 11!—THOMPSON’S CELEBRATED WASHING
i COMPOUND.—The manufacturer of this Compound
bus no hesitation In pronouncing it superior to any arti
cle of the kind ever before offered to the public.
It is entirely free from any substance that willinjure
the color or texture of th« finest fabric, and is, tbemorc,
particularly adopted to the washing r>f fancy articles.
For Liuen, Cambric, Muslin, Ac., it is unequalled, entire
ly removing all yellowness, thereby rendering the process
of bleaching unnecessary.
As an article for Toilet use, it will be found very benefi
cial; also for salt rheum, chapped hands, or anv eruprions
of the skin. Boldly R. E. SELLERS A CO.,

Persona who bare acquired a stooping position, by follow*

tbe use of the Washington Suspender Brace/’ made and
sold by Dr. KEYSEK, corner of Wood street and Virgin

the shoulders to tbelr natural position, and expand the
chest. We purchased one some time ago, and have been so
pleased with It, that we unsolicited gave it a “puff,” gratia.
Women, hundreds of whom are annually injured by the
