U. 8. Miutaat Acsnanv, West Point, April IS, ISM.—
Gentlemen; I haTe looked over “Ilenek’s Field Book for
Railroad Engineers,” and think it well adapted to the ob
ject its author proposes, and hare no question but it will be
foundavery useful and practical volume both foroffleeand
fodd work. D. U. Mahzk.

I am much pleased with Mr. Ilenck’s Uttle manual, the
“ Field Book or Railroad Knginuers." 'With the preeenu
tiou of some of the most practical and useful of recognized
processes among railway engineers, he has gives others
which, new at least in their present form, appear to possess
a mint of higher value than that of mere novelty—that ot
being lo general susceptible of available, not to say desira
ble, practical use. In conclusion, while 1 think the design
of Mr. Henrk’s book is such as to adapt it excellently well
to professional needs, 1 hare pleasure in expressing my
ourdlal satisfaction with its execution, alike with the per
spicuity or arrangement effected by the author, and the ex
cellent typographical taste displayed by his publishers.
