WEEKLY REVIEW OF PITTSBURGH MARKET,
Orncs of te* Dial Jlotraa Po», )
Friday, September 16, 1864> [
[Note. —Ths quotations given in the following Review, it
must b« understood, are the wholesale price*, except when
otherwise notloed.}
Although the rain that foil In this' vicinity within the
week past, has ecaroely been sufficient to benefit vegetation,
other portions of the country have been visited by refresh.*
ing showers, and the reports altogether are much, nun
cheering than what has heretofore been received. Vie have
conversed wlih a gentlemen who has traveled extensively
through Michigan and north-western Ohio, and be gives, a
very gratifying account of the. crops in that region.. Ha
says through Michigan they were never better—His yield of
Oom and Potatoes being.particularly abundant. In ths part
of Ohio mentioned they have also suffered but Uttla from
the drought which has been so long prevailing in a targe
portion of the country. a
Flour is still high here and will probably continue to be
so until a rise in the liver, then it mart come down. At
present the Bresdstuffs, or the msjor portion tofwhstU
consumed, is brought here from Cincinnati, at an wi
pe use of 70 cents per barrel, by railroad. When then Is a
sufficient stage of water to admit the running of stsam
boats, the Flour can be brrnght £0 cents per barrel cheaper,
which of Itself is a consideration, oven admitting a rise In
the streams would not otherwise have a tendency to bring
down the prince.
Wheat is somewhat lower, than this time last week, In
consequence of the Increased receipts. Corn a Ultle higher
and Oats nearly a shilling. Mess Pork has also advanced,
which is owing to the small quantity in market, and the
prospective short supply next year, Seeds, Whisky and
Bacon are without change. Hay has advaneed slightly.
The money market remains as at our last report—there
being plenty for those who don’t need the “ ready,” and
very hard to get for those who do. Good paper is discounted
at 1 per cenft, and that of hot equal standlng.at I*4 pee

Io New York the weekly dty Bank statemens exhibit a
more liberal line of specie than was generally'fmUdpated
after the large export movement by the lastCuocrt and
Collins packets. The aggregate sum b*ld by the 67 City
Banks, is $14,146,317, against $14,714,600 the previous get
urday. Much of the demand fur London Wila,Aad of coo-,
■squenec the export drafts for specie, are understood to be
for the Mexican fund, the important of which to the specie
line cf the banks is rapidly diminishing. The remaining
balance could now be probably paid off without red udjjg
tbeir strength beioit the figures of Jnly 1, when the ar
rangpoent for the deposit was maJe with the Mexican offi
cials. The other feature* cf the back exhibit, Aow an ap
pm-nt increase of deposits of $974,595, and a remarkably
steady discount movement. There is a lair supply Of mo
ney among lenders, at call, and few complaints on this score
a made from the Stock bouses in good credit There Is
il to be an improved disposition shown by the Banks to
recognise Railway Stock and Bonds u safe collate rials at
reasonable margins. The BUI Brokers am still actively em
ployed in negotiating mercantile paper ct rates bf interest
varying from 12 to 15 per cent.
