of Sir. A 3 morning t ame again, reports of
the death
v .;olett and others'levithied to
Occasion the "leepest 'sensation. - Large crowds
collects around the police office and -calaboose,
op and down several of the principal streets,
whose sole topics' of conversation were the out
rages of the previous night, and the means to
be - taken to secure safety and peace to - the city:
About-9 o'clock a proclamation of Mayordlow's
was posted all over the city, calling -theneople
to the Court House at 12 o'clock, X.., for the
. purpose of. consulting about the best medsures
to be taken-to quell the mob and Areettere Order.
Thermseting was a very large one notwithstand
ing a heavy. rain was falling at the time.
Speeches were made by Mr. Kennett, Mayor
How, Mr. Lucas and Judge Bates, alt of which
were most enthusiastically received by tho'large
crowd.
The speech of the Mayor was well timed and
of a proper spirit. He appealed to the citizens
to assist him to vindicating the outraged majesty
of the lawn, and' paid a well- merited compliment
to the military companies, and especially co -Capt.
Blackburn, who promptly seconded ail- is ef—
forts. Mr. Kennett's remarks wers'in4ood sea
son, as also those of Judge Bates a n d others:-
Finally, the following set of resoldtions were
adopted:
let. That Mayor How be requested tone spend
the municipal police force for the - present.
2d. That the liquot shops be roquested te clam
each day at four o'clock, P. X:, till order be re
stored.
3d That all citizens be requested to abstain
frotti assembling together in the streets, partien
larly in the riotous districts ; and that they aid
in keeping vagrant boys from the streets..
Aud when the Mayor, in compliance w:th the
resolution; announced that the municipal force
of the city WAS or should be, suspended for the
present, be was most loudly greeted witleelfeers.
A call, wu then made thatall good citizens who
I Are anxious for the retprn of law and order to
'our city, should proceed at come to the City Hall
and enrol their names '-as- special policemen to
:guard sad watch the city; after which the meet
ing adjourned. The roll was kept open, all of
yesterday afternoon , until 5 o'clock, when the
large number who had signed - the roll met again
at the Court Hotta, were sworn In, and received
their instructions sad arms, and departed upon
duty. Just before nightfall another proclama
tiou was mnde by the Mayor that all t erects and
guardians should have their children and -wards
in dooriat 71 - o'clock, P. It., and tliany boy_
or child being found on the streets,sf El o'clock
would be seized and lodged in the county jail
until morning.
This we regard -as the very best - step . which
had, up to that time, been taken by the antheri
ties,. for, from OUPORII observation as well as
that of others, we knoir that much it not all of
the continuance of the riot utter Monday, was
owing to the squads of little.vagrante who gave
the alarm and led the attacks, of the mob. Up
toithia. time of the night, 11 o'olock,.we have
heard of no fresh disturbances.- The special po
lice are welt distributedthro*hemt the-city and
will doubtless do ekeellent navvies. Itaatimpos
sails for agaves yet, to give a oorreet list of the
killed and WOULIIII4., In 'addition to those we
gave yesterday, we only hear of a Mr. gnielm,
shot at -the corner of Broadway sad. AslEfy
streets; Mr Violett, shot at .the wornegof Ninth
and Biddle, as also a man by thename or Smith
Monissu, shot at the corner of Sixth and Mor

during the affray at the corner of Green and
Sixth streets. Thera are donblieesmany wound
