She immediately sunk, owing to the great rush of water into her bold, which, at the lime, con laloed about three hundred tons of valuable freight. The pilot woe immediately despatched to St. Joseph, where he engaged thb Polar Star to proceed to the scene of tbe dbas ter; she rendered some service,for which was paid the sum of $5OO. The Banner Stale arrived yeaterday morning at our wh*rf, and shortly after moved en—we suppose to the docks. The amount of damage done to the freight was not ascertained yesterday. The fact of her being letafloat and enabled to proreed oo her trip in so short a time after sinking, was owing to the removal of her deck load by the Polar Star, and the untiring energy of tbe hands on the Banner Slate in pumping out the water, and stopping up the bole made by the snag.
