After assembling in tho school-house, the names of those
pretont were-called, and.representhtlvos found to be present
from eyery district inthe county, except Neville.

to fix the compensation of Superintendent* which was car*

... A motion was then Introduced that a committee of fire be
appointed to arrange the salary, which wae amended by:
making It one from each school district.
After considerable discussion thia motion was withdrawn,
sad tbe Convention proceeded tonnmethe amount of ind
ary. The following sums wero then suggested' by different
gentlemen: $3000,52^00,51,800,51,600,51,200,51000,5800,
$6OO, $5OO, $3OO and $lOO
A motion was mado by Mr. Bdtrards, that tbe Obnvefction
proceed to vote on the sums named by ivaj-hundred from
$lOO np to s3ooty which was accepted*'
. Ur. Scott, from Boss township, said that ho could not see
the propriety of fixing the salary na high as some of the.
cams named-rtbQ office itself was entirely unnecessary,
and would, be rather detrimental then of benefit to the
school syslom. He would therefore be in favor of fixing it
at such an amount that no-person would have it.
Ur. Joriah King, of Allegheny, replied that he thought:
the law was an excellent ono, and as a Superintendent was
necessary to carry out Its provisions, he hoped that the
salary would ho placed at a sufficiently high amount lose*
core the services of the most competent men, and that no
such obstacles would be thrown In the-way Of giving it s'
fair and Impartial trial, ‘ -v
Mr. Blgham, the Chairman, then rose to make a personal
explanation Jn regard to his action in the Legislature at tho
time tbe new law was passed.
At tbe conclusion of Ur. Bighorn's remarks, tho Conven
tion adjournod until after dinner. -

The Conrontlon convened again at 2 o’clock, and Hr.
'White spoke at bocio lengthen the benefit and. advantages
to be derived from the new school system r ifthe lav is ear
riodontJo the right spirit, and aceordlag to the Intent of
tha framers.
The Convention then proceeded to fix the amount of the
■alary, each delegate, aa hia name vaa called, mentioning
the sum ho desired to bare H plaoed at. .
After calling over all the names, the following was the
