Io the uaturoof things, it was next to impossible for oar letters to fail. We knew they would be written and despatched; but wo were forewarn* cd that they might bo tampered with, or inter cepted. The Texas, which arrived on Saturday, brought ue no oerrcspondence,.and there is every reason ,to believe that the writer's letters have bocn eehed, read and destroyed-by tbo unscru pulous minions of Santa Anna. Wo are tbo more inolinod to this conclusion from the fact that the letters in question were pictures of Mexiaan policy, the views of the government, and the state of public feeling, euoh as are only attainable from privato sources of approved value and authenticity. The letters we hate heretofore published, and which have proved es sentially exaot in every statement and predic tion, have no doubt awakened tho suspicion of his Sorene Highness, and led to this infamous and dsspotip interference with the rights of in dividuals. ■ This opinion is corroborated by the assurances given to us by. gentlemen of tho highest obaraa ter that their correspondence hos. been similarly dealt with.
