summit of the Allegheny mountains,da ft work of engineer*

. tunnel was commenced on the 13th xfOctobor, 1851, and
the heading was finished onthe first of Fobruary,l&s4. Tho ■
tunnel passea through the sammlt of tho mountains at a i
. point known as Sugar Bun Gap, and lies In the counties of i
■ -lilnir and Cambria—lhe sutamitbelogtho dividing lino of]
the’iwo counties. The tunnel, vuworked from.boUrendJj
