250 wagons; took n new route to the head of
Willamette Valley, gotlostand suffered severely.
Several died by starvation and exhaustion.; it is
not known : exnotly how-many. - Within twenty*
four hours after thenowßreaohed the settlements,
20,000 pounds of flour was on tho way to aid
them; and in 8 days there were 94 backed ani
mals, 28 loaded wagons and 290 head of oattlc
sent out. All the immigrants nro now Bafe.
The immigrants who have attempted- to cross
the Cascade Mountains, have suffered severely.
