BATUBDAt MOKNLNG::::;::::::FEBKUARY A?
UiiKiSQ BEAES.-r-Tbo .Freeman’s Journal
gives the following good one: . •
A' friond of ours who has recently returned
from tv little jaunt in the country* happening to
stay nt the house of an old Methodißt Doaoon,
has handed us-the following spocimen of that
•pious gentlemnu'n commentary on a passago in
the Bible.- As it is quite equal to any thing we
have seen lately, we do not foel.disposqd to beep
■it to ourselves. It appears that, for many years
poßt the Deaoon had observed the custom of read
ing daily a ohapterfrom the sacred, scripture to
the family, and of malting a running extempo
raneous commentary upon each .particular pas
sago tbat seomod to require elucidation. Com
ing to-that part of the Bible which says "Now
theso seven did Milcba bear unto.Nahor,” lie
cleared his throat and explained thus: .
“ The object of this hero passage is to show
ub how bad off tho people ÜBcd to was in old
times. Then they hadn't no dairys but was
ob'ceged to milk bears, and it took six to bold,
the bear whilo tothor milked it, and they hod to
go to Nahor to git tho bears.”
CoprKa Mikes in Feedeeick County, Maey
eaSd.—We took occasion three weeks ago, says
the Frederick Examiner, to refer to the new and
valuable discoveries of copper ore, in tho region
■ surrounding tho Liberty District, and which
•seems destined at no remote period to contribute
bo largely to tho wealth and population of that
section of the county; Wo have since been
shown rich specimens from the lands of Peter
Hines, Esq., taken from a Bhaft now about 20 :
feet, indicating nbundaut deposits of the metal,
that may ho easily raised at comparatively Bmall
cost. A valuable vein, our informant says, also
exists on the farnt.of John Engle, Esq., near
Johnsville, that is attracting attention.
