The jury retained*verdict that the deceased cams to bis

Hrs. ITCalrn, who stated before tho Coroner’s Jury that tho
party did not drink “ more than a quart of whisky.” Mc-
Cullen, McCall, Hopkins, and tho others, then left tho

front of-the.house, whom, it appears,-a.difficulty sprung
np between MpCullon and McCall. They moved off a short
distance firom tho house, and commenced fighting. MoGnl
len knocked tho deceased down and jumped on him, he
then ran away a short distance.
Mcdall got op and walked towards him—as he ctuao near,
McCaUin bit him with a heavy dub over the face; the do*
ceased threw his hands up, and was failing back, when Mo-
CuUm inhumanly struck him another blow on the head
with the club. McCall full insensible to the ground; he was
carried to oso of tho ahauices, bat nuver spoke afterwards.
His head was horribly mangled; thoro was a fracture of the
skull extending from tho front of tho left aide of his head
to tho back of the head. Ilia face was also cat badly.
The evidence elicited at tho Inquest, shows conclusively
that M’Cullln acted with great violence towards tho de
ceased ; Jar mow fio, than the naturo of tho cose required.
Tho deceased was a native of Ireland, and amsmod man.
lie loaves one child living in England. M’CnlUnls also an
Irishman. Ho Is about twenty-seven years of age, and un
married Ho is now in tho county j ail, gpfl a commitment
for murder has becu lodged against him.

Fins.—Abo at 7 o’clock on Wednesday evening a lire broke
out in the bacon house of Mr. Alexander Laughlld, on the
corner of Etna street , and the canal, in the Filth Ward,
which resoHcd in tho destruction of a portion of that ex
tensive warehouse. The fire originated Inthohack part of
the front bulldiug, and did not oxload to the curing house,
immediately In thexear. The flames caught from the fire
used in smoking the meat, and in a few minutes the whole
of that portion of the building was in flames. There was 1
but&Fm&Uomountcf meatln smoke and tho loss in that I
respect was inconsiderable. The injury sustained by tho
building Was the heaviest, hut Wo presume it was fully
covered by insurance. . - • .
