i determined, cither by threat or-flattery, to get !
[ Sweden on her side, and the Swedes ara in great |

ly in favor of Russia, but the nation, to a man,
Is against her. It is no secret here that Russia
is making enormous preparations for war, al
-1 though every thingiskept as secret as possible.
... She has already one or two screw lino of battle
ships, and is non converting others as fust as
possible. Since Russia has had Finland, she has
sailors equal to any in the world, with the bolc
v exception of the Anglo-Saxon race, so that next
i summer thn general opinion hero is that Russia,
to Bay the least of it, wilt astonish England and
i Franco, and put those, powers to a greater test
than they have yot had.
The Russian emissaries are most aetivo all
over the world. She has already beaten England
at the Court of Persia, and Dost Mahomed is on
! her side (?)
Stocholm, 26th.—Tho King hasinvited thei
Diet to nominate a small number of its membere
possessing Its entire confidence, lowborn as a
secret cmmittoe the.government may make an
important communication. It Is believed that
the government wishes to bring eomd momentous
facts connected with foreign affairs to the notice
of the Diet. ■ ■■■'■< ■■■ :
The speedy withdrawal of the Austrian and]
French soldiers from Rome is expected, ss Fins
the Ninth is anxious to again trust his safety to ]
the loyalty of his own people. |
- An important Bourbon movement is going on
in Spoinj-aud it is said that the newly “fused"
princes are ambitious enough to liopo for an ap
proach to that ancient :orown. Mr. Soule’s
health was improving. Oar Madrid advices state I
that Archbishop Bedini. now in this country,
has been appointed Apostolic Nuncio to the
oaurt of Queen Isabella, and that he wouldsoon
assume the duties of hia new.office.. .
Very considerable excitement prevails in Den

From what wo havo-been able to learn, however,

some lucky hits have been mode. From a source
