There are xn tbo City of Pittsburgh audits vicinity .ftoren
teen large Rolling Mills, and those would consume, .while
running, on an average fifteen hundred bushels of coal per
<lay. And supposing cacb mill to rnn.2so day sin tbe year,
the annual consumption would bo (6,375,000. bushels,)- siy

4 Them are In the fame bounds twrivo principal or largo

There are five large cotton factories, which consume:

The public buildings, including hospitals,J»U, Ponitcn*'

(200 000) two hundred thousand bushels per year,
The'• water works and Allegheny arsenal will consume

fifty piher steam engines used for. varions'purposcs, which
It would be almost impossible: to specify: fbrinsianre, for

Next, wo hare tbn steamboats which uaflvlevro the.
wharves of tbo two titles, and consume coal. Tor these we
may safely estimate that there are eight boats leave the
wharf daily during seven months of each year, during
which there is a constant navigation of the rivers-and in
thl* is Included the Turiousboats of all classes. During a
largo portion or tbe year there are thl* number of boats o«
the Ohio aTnnednßy. some of which take as mueh a* (1500)
fifteen hundred bushels each, so that this estimate is rally
•within the it wilt bo moderate to allow for each
heat (500) five hundred bushels per day, which make* a
dally demand from this source of 4,000 bushels, and for two
hundred and ten days consumption Itwuuld require (840,*

THE satecrlberg offer for tbo mnsid*-ration of thn public
the above untno-l FUKNACIS, designed for Warming
and Ventilating building*, combining in itself all the doth
rable qualities require?! in a perfect Heating Apparatus, In*
auring personal comfort, without any or the disagreeable
sensations or sources of annoyance so common io heating
arrangement*.. While the occupants of a room or building
experience all the comfort arising from a warm summer at*,
Biosphere, they also inhale pare life-giving' and health
sustaining air, not contaminated by being derived from
damp, unhealthy sources, or its power to sustain life being
impaired by coming in contact with an over-heated surface..
These results are produced, in part, by constructing the
furnace In such, a manner that the heat in diffused at a low
er temperature than i« usual with- any other Furnace now
known to the public. In producing this result, another ob
ject of great importance is obtained on the score of econo
my: the heat-absorbing ns well as radiating surface is so
great that the heat is almost entirely abstracted from the
gnsea before they are driven off into the chimney, thereby
greatly reducing tho consumption of fuel. ' The fad cham
ber is so lined with soapstone and fire-brick: that tho fuel
cannot come in contact with the Iron, preventing tho over
heating of tho air, and destruction or injury to the
Furnace. _
Tbo joints of the Furnnee are so constructed as to afford
room for making a light sand and clay joint, preventing
the escape of noxious nod sooty gnsea Into the room, bo an
noying to Uio occupants, and so injurious to the health and
furniture.
The air to bo warmed Is taken directly from tho outside
of Uio building In nil eases, thus loauring a supply of pure,
wholesome air for breathing, and tbo other important func
tions required by hunnin system—t|ie oxygen la not af
fected, nor the organic matter in the air carbonised bycom
ing in contact with an over-heated surface, ns with other
furnaces, and headaches and other dlsagreeablo sonsationa
are prevented by this means—and in consequence of tho
warm air not making too lnrge demands upon the lungs
and evaporating snrfaeeof the skin, to supply the moisture
which it has lost in passing over a red hot surface. In
Kf or this attention Is called to tho certificates of Pro
r SilHmau, of Yale College, New Haven, and to those
of other scientific persons who have examined this subject.
If public and universal approval is any test of merit, the
proprietors of this valuable Furnace can appeal to the
written testimony of thousands, to tho press, and to public
exhibitions in all parts of the world, it having received tho
Prize Medal at the World's Fair, and the highest Premiums
at Fairs in New England, New York, and n Silver Modal at
tho State Agricultural Fair in Pennsylvania.

Jayne's Expectorant.
rfONSUMPTION. —This term infrequently inappropriately
/ applied to other affections of the lungs and Bronchia.
So far as the treatment Is concerned, this Is of very tittle
eon'cqucoes, as the remedies are the same. The EXPEC
TORANT should be given os often as may bo necessary to
relieve the cough, and produce a free and cosy.expectora
tion, and also to remove the tightness, or pain, or oppres
sion about the threat or chest. The bowels should be regu*
la tod by the use of the SANATIVE PILLS whenevor neces
sary. If there be much debility, with night sweats, lrom
one to two tea-spoonfuls of TONIC VERMIFUGE should be
given about half on hour before each meal. It should be
mixed In two or three spoonsful of cold water, and sweet
ened to please the taste. But If there be no night-sweats,
or if they disappear, then give the ALTERATIVE three
times a day, according to the directions, instead of the
VERMIFUGE.
