XjEctubes. —We are mneh pleased to learn that
the Ret. Mr. Cornwall, Beotor of St Andrew’s
Chnroh, intends preaohiog a series of sermons to
young men.
The sermons will be delivered on the evening
of the first Sunday of each month, commencing
■on nest Sunday evening, at 7 o’olook.
Tits Coal Boat Cases vrero beard by Aid.
Steel yesterday, but judgment will not be ren
dered until Saturday. The law violated imposes
a fine of twenty-five dollars, on tho proprietor of
each boat violatiog its provisions. About fifty
boats havo been returned.
The Penitentiary contains at present, one
hundred and prisoners—ofthisnmn
her, but three are females. Boring the month
•of October, nine prisoners were received; seven
•disebarged by expiration-of sentence, and one
T>y pardon.
Passing Counterfeit Monet.— James Haney
was arrested yesterday, and taken before Aid.
Parkinson, on a charge of possinga counterfeit
bill on Samuel A. Qibb, of Jefferson county.
Haney was held to bail.
Birmingham Property. —A number of valuar
blc lots in the most dcsirablo locations, in this
flourishing borough, will be offered on the pre
mises, tliis evening, at 2 o'clock, by P. M. Davis,
auctioneer.
Tippling House.— James Haney was held to
bail .yesterday, by AM. Parkinson, ou a oharge
of keeping a tippling house, preferred by Sam
uel A. Qibb.
Theatre. —Mrß. Farrcn takes a second bene
fit this evening. Sho will appear in three differ-
ent pieces.

Indicted for assault nud battery with intent to kill August
Leuscler, the Conrt charged the jury yesterday morning.
They retired, and in a short time returned a verdict of
fmllty, tp manner and form as Indicted.
Commonwealth vr. Daniel Boner; indictment, adultery.
The jury returned a verdict of guilty. Tlw Court sen
tenced Boner to pay a fine of fifty dollars* the coat* of
ecotion, ami undergo an imprisonment In the county jail
of six months.
Commonwealth vs. John Jenkins; indictment, assault
and battery- Tbo prosecutor not appearing, the jury re
turned a verdict of noi guilty, the prosecutor, Abram
Brewer, to pay the cuato. . -
Commonwealth va. Mose* F. Maylor; Information, surety
of the pence, on oath of Rachael Carney. .The Court ordcr

and battery- vith intent to commit a rape* on oath of Mrs.
Dyer- wife of Emanuel Dyer. Tbeerldunee for thepruaecu

of prominent gentlemen were called who bed known the
defendant for thirty years: they testified to hi* general
