Tar. PaooLamarlos of Mayor Riddle,cissued
last week, had the effect of closing most of the
drinking houses which are Usually open on Sun
day. Many " back doors'," however, were easy
of access, and kis estimated that the front door
oc the meal popularrestanrant in the city was
tried during thet - day by about 2,793 persons;
this number multiplied by ten, makes a pretty
good sum. Oir Germatt friends suffered the

them as law abidingcitizens: At Benites Hail,
above us on Wood street, the doorwas shrouded
in crape, and a motto attached in German and

The above precious morsel' is taken from the
Gazette. "'No true workingman can be do
ceived" by such expressions, when they come
, from a man who refused to accede to a very rea
sonable demand made by his journeymen for an
advance in their wages. Every workingman
should know that the editor (of the Gazette) who
uttered the above slander, has always shown
himself an enemy of every measure calculated
to advance the mechanic, in whose degradation
he had an interest.

Miss DAVENPORT, universally conceded to be
ono of the most pleasing actresses on the stage,
appears to-night at the theatre as Pauline, in
Bulwer's play, of tho Lady of Lyons. Miss D.
has been some time in Europe, but on her return
to this country she was received with great en
thusiasm every place she visited. It is no
wonder, either, for a more estimable lady, end
talented and accopeplished actress, the co u ntry
cannot produce.
Last night the theatre was jammed to witness
the performance of the play of lugomar.
larsrustous.—On Saturday night, a man

or Frost Wort has only been advertised in Pitts
burgh about one month, nod already cures are

hip disease, neuralgia, sick bead ache, tetter,
