It is well worth reading, and we hope every democrat will rend it attentively. It presents a • fail and truthful view of the character of our candidates for State offices, and urges upon every democrat the duty of harmony and no . tivity. In all parts of the State the denTocrats are aroused and earnest for victory. And they are lookiag anxiously towards Allegheny county for the: display of a similar spirit. The democrats of 'Ale gheiy county have stood firm and faithful through adversity and defeat, for years. We ore sure they will not falter noW, when a victory is within our reach. We may elect a part of our county ticket; help to swell the State majority; and express our confidence in the Federal adminis. tration ; by turning out, to a man, on Tuesday next. Do we need stronger motives, or more eneonaugement to exertion ? Lot us but win the victory in this county this year, and the rule of the party of isms is at an end. "Good omens cheer us" on every side. In all the States where the elections have occurred this ysar, democracy has won victories and gained strength. Pennsylvania must not be be hind in this gallant race. And the democrats of Allegheny county, stimulated by the double mo tif° of emulating the seal and faithfulness of their brethren elsewhere, and winning an un wonted triumph, must turn out in their full strength, on Tuesday nest. The True Position. The same game resorted to by a few Whigs and Free Sailers in the present campaign, in re lation to Temperance, was sought to be -played by the same parties in the campaign of 1849. The Patriot at that time, under the control of Mr. Morgan, the lies of the mongrel brawlers to the contrary notwithstanding, took precisely the same position on this subject that it does at the present day. A correspondent of the Matagorda Penne mils the following as a postscript to &Jotter, dated San Antonio, Aug. 20: I have just learned a piece of warrumor, that . may be interesting to your readers. Instruc tions have been received here by the quarter. master, to make immediate preparations fertile reception and accommodation of 10,000 United States troops—some say 20,000. This move ment has been induced by the warlike attitude of Mexico. Santa Anna is rapidly recruiting hls forces; and it is pretty Well ascertained, upon good authority, has already a large error% pro cess of organization. We have every reason to believe that the demonstrations are not pacific. Rumor is rife hero, that be makes theimmediate 'minion of Texas a matter of no concealment. The Mexicans here believe the report. In reference to this, however, the Tribune makes the following plausible observations: There remains no question of the fact that he has already raised a large army, and prit them in motion for his northern frontier; but that be is preparing for an invasion of the United States is rather too doubtful a suggestion for our credu lity. Santa Anna is accorded too much diacern ment by those who know him for any such erra tic movements. Ile has intestine enemies 'to contend with, and ho Is preparing to put their noses to the grindstone, and carry out the op pressive measures of his own ambitions and in domitable will at the point of the bayonet. The Northern States are murmuring diaaffeatlon, and he is determined to teach them obedience. Ca margo, Monterey, Matamoros, and other towns adjacent to the lower Rio Grande, are bristling with his bayonets, while higher up, near the Presidio road, a heavy army of 30,000 men le said to be on the march. Our own government, being apprised of these movements, began to prepare for an emergency. All the troops from the available Indian outposts in the - vicinity have been ordered to rendezvous at San Antonio im. mediately. Several companies had arrived there before we left. Some twenty companies from different military stations In the Atlantic States have also been ordered to San Antonio, and it Is generally believed that there would be between 6.000 and 8,000 troops quartered in that city in the edlaras of a few weeks. The San Antonio Texan of the Bth Says: Lieut. MeeMing's party of the United States Boundary Commission arrived in this city a few days ago from Eagle Pass end the Upper Rio Grande. They report everything' quiet In that region, with the exception of the usual amount of stealing on both sides of the river. This be- Mg an old thing, It creates no excitement er Un easiness. Of Santa Anna's warlikepreparations nothing Is known at Eagle Pass. The Newer, ( - allay, of Corpus Christi, in its issue of the 6th instant, says: We mentioned in our last, the arrival.of Ifej.
