A Men Wxru Tirol Wit-ea.—A man calling
himself Dr. Wm. neuter, but whose real name
is said to be Nathaniel J. Bird, le in jail at Cam
den, N. J., on a charge of bigamy, and various
other charges. On Sunday Elizabeth Herring
ton, a lady of Philadelphia, visited him in
prison, and ascertained that he was the man to
whom she was married on the 'llth of July last.
On the same day he was visited by another lady
from Kensington, named Mary Thomas, to whom
he was married in May last. It is-also stated
that he hue a wife in Reeding. another in Wil
mington Del., and another yet in Philadelphia.
The prisoner is only about 23 years of age,'and,
it is stated, declares that be has twenty wives, a
statement which may be true, as more than One•
fourth of-that number has been found within a
few days. It is alleged that he abandoned each
wife soonnfter marriage, and that they never
beard of, him after until his recent arrest. The
affair -creates the greatest excitement in Cam
den, and has induced an immense number of
people to seek admission for the purpose of see
ing him.

an acting midshipman, named Perkins, from the
Annapolis Naval School, fired -with thirty-two

Asylum at Harrisburg, on Monday evening
last, the 19th inst., by IL L. Blood and Dr.

CLAZION COMM —Found.—The skeleton of
Joseph Foster. who three months ago passed
through this placeobis Late residence, in a fit of
mania-a-potu, was discovered by a lady who
was bunting grapes, below the old Clarion bridge,
one mile west of town. His hat, one boot and a
shoe, and other articles of clothing, which still
adhered to the bleached bones, clearly identified
the original owner. His vest hung upon a bush
some twenty yards above. The position of the
remains would indicate that he had quietly
slept away.
WE.ATNOICELAND COUNTY.--0.1 Saturday last,
boy about 1411 years of are, was brought to town
to be sent by railroad to his mother, in Wyandot
aomity, Ohio, badly wounded by a gun shot.—
Tbe boy had been east, assisting with a drove,
and discharged, and returning home by the Na
tional Bead, on feot. In passing along the road
in Fayette county, he says a Mall stopped out of
the woods with a gun, and shot Mai in the,groin,
and then robbed him of all his money, about
5'20,00. Ile lay bleeding and helpless, for some
hours, when he was discovered and properly
cared for. The outrage occurred about three
weeks ago, and he is so far recovered. as to he
able to make an effort to reach his friends in
.ado. Several of cur citizens contributed money

A SUBSTITUTE FOB STELLEOIMISO.-A system
of electrotyping moulds taken of type in was,
which is said to hay° a decided advantage over
ordinary stereotyping, it is said has been adopt
ed in New York. The process is as follows :
Having taken a mould of tbo typo in wax.
they put it into a solution of copper, and apply
to it a powerful galvanic battery, which causes
the copper to be deposited with 'each accuracy
upon the mould as to make a perfect topper face,
which will last much longer than the ordinary
metal face, withourcosting any more. The pro
cess occupies about twelve hours. • It is said
the 'Messrs. Harpers employ this process exclu
sively in their establishment.

MAGEDY AT LOVISVILLIL-0/1 Saturday night,
at Louisville, Smith Peters, a young teamster
and a young woman named-named Ann Bowles,
tool a walk out, when Peters met an acquaint
ance and stopped, In a moment after two men
approaohed,the woman and stabbed her to the
heart, killing her instantly, and on Peters' run
ning to ber assistance, they stabbed him several
times, and made their escape. It is suspected
that one of the murderers is a person against
whom Peters lately appeared as a witness.

keep the wharf, on the -Monongahela river, in
good order, and clear of each nuisances and ob

We presume the city authorities will see the pro
priety of some change in their ordinances in re
lation to the wharf, and that the wharf will be
more carefully managed hereafter, with a view
to the safety and convenience of steamboats.
