The work of testing the strength of-every part
of the edifice has been commenced by. Mr. Petr
mold, the engineor. Tbo mode adopted of mak
ing tho tost, is placing a mass of iron weighing
107,600 lbs. on eaoh square or bay in the gal
lery between four columns, which is said to be
equivalent to 76 lbs; to tbo squarelnob, It Is
computed that in-the densest possible crowd of
