An old mori named Snuff, was robbed at the
National Hotel in Berlin, Somerset connty, one
night last-week, of upwards of $3OO. The money
was sown up in the breast of hia coat; the coot
wus found next morning on the wood pilo, and
the money gone.
The Gyeensburg Republican says that on
last Saturday evening, Mr. MoKeo’s plan of pre
venting houses from taking lire from other
buildings,- was fully tested on btuldingd erect
ed for that purpose, There were three houses
built "adjoining cash other. The end ones
each containing sis cords of wood oodother
[combustible material, werofired, ondthemid
-1 die one wassaved. It appeared satisfactory to
the many hundreds who witnessed it.
A heavy and destructive hailstorm passed
over part of the east of Westmoreland county,
'on last Monday oveniug. Itwasvciy destruc
tive on some of the grain fields, and the win

town, were nearly all broken.
