Welch's Picture. —Col. Hudson, tho agent for the splen
did engraving of Washington, In the city, has in his posses,
riemOne of Welch’s engravings, in a magnlfioontftamc, made
by Mr. Boecklng, of SL Oair-etreet, which is intended as a
present to the Senate of Pennsylvania. The frame is mag
nificent, and the character of the ongraving wo need not
praise.
Riot.-—A charge was deposited in jail, yesterday, against
William Taylor, charging him with riot, on oath of John
Gordon. This ppm is also charged with being concerned in
the murder of Tuesday afternoon in the Seventh ward.
A brother of Taylor mcnlioncd*above was also committed
by Aid. Major, on the same chargo.
Taut Bill—Tho Grand Jury yesterday returned a true
bIQ against Mrs. Hester Richardson, accused of tho murder
of bar step son. Walter Richardson, in the grounds of the
Allegheny Arsenal, in May last There nothing fur
ther to be brought before the Grand Jury.- His honor.
Judge Irwlu. discharged them with the thanks of the Court.
Assault and Battery.—John Smith (which one we coo t
tell,) was held to bail, by the Mayor yesterday, for a violent
sassaultond battery on John Dougherty. Smith wns charged
with refusing to give to Dougherty a sum of'‘money and a
dinner bucket, belonging to complainant, and which Smith
had posseseiou oC The aggressor was held to bail.

the wharf; for attempting to purloin apples from a barrel, by

FUGITIVE SLAVES ESCAPED.

Quito a number of PugiUvo Slaves arrived here tost even
ing from Kentucky, and -were immediately escorted to the
si earner Arrow by their friends. As the boat was about
'leaving, they were arrested by some slave-catcher*, who pro
ceeded to lead them ashore, but were prevented by a number
of citizens of both colors, who, after a sharp rescued
the slaves, and they are now on their way to Canada, mnch
to the chagrin of the Kentuckians, who consoled tbrawlvcs
with the idea that tho all tens are responsible for the Fugi

BUCKETS AND TUBS—Manufacturers of the Beaver
Buckets and Tube have reduced their prices, and sales are
now made In lots, by our merchants, at $1,7501,87 for the
former, and 607, fog the latter article.
COFFEE—The torn of the coffee market sinoe our last has
not undergone any change; holders am firm and seem some
what more encouraged since the sale at auction in Baltimore
on the 13th, as follows The aggregate Baleaby auction and
private contract being near 12,000 bags. There was a full at*
tendance of buyers, and the sale of the whole went off with
much spirit; prices ruled from 8%@% for Inferior lo prime.
