SATURDAY MORNING"""
A ?r-r°*
Thnredaynight, about half J>ast ten® clock, u
Mr Samoel Wylie, a resident of the Seventh
Ward, of this city, was proceeding home, he suf
a most brutal attack at the hands of two
members of the night-watch, Isaac HuH and
Morris. Mr. W. was, what might be
called, a "little merry,” and was proceeding
borne' without harming any one, ,and when he
had reached Enoch street, In the Seventh Ward,
and was standing on his own.lot, the watebmon
attempted to arrest him, and. made an assault,
striking Wylie with their maces—he resented,
and Morris, who had hold of him, called on HuU
to shoot Wylio, which he. did on a second, bid
ding. The pistol with which he shot Wylie was
loaded with shot and slugs* and the shnrgo took
effect in his left arm and side., The two watch
men then beat Wylie on the head with thv ma
ces, until they finally secnredhim, with the in
tention of dragging him to the watch-house. A
crowd gathered; and Wylie’s brother-in-law, in
the rear of whose house the affray took plaoe,he*
came personally.responeiblo for his appparanotj
before the proper authorities. The valient watch
men then retired, and Mr. AVylie.was conveyed;
to the house of his brother-in-law, in Enoch Bt.,
where he now lies, in a critical condition. Yes
terday morning. Aid. Thompson took the depo
sition of Mr. Wylio, and a charge of assault and
battery, with intenttokill, was preferred against.
Morris and Hull. Dr. M’Candless was sent for,
at on early hour yesterday, and ho dressed the i
wonnds of Mr. Wylie, and extracted the shot;
and sings: Besides the injuries caused by the
- shot, Mr. W. was severely beaten and injured,
on tho head and face, by blows from the maces
of the two watchmen.
