Thompson, of Washington county, ten* dered hie services as Missionary to Oregon—re ferred-to Select Committee. - On motion, all matters pertaining, to tho Ore gon Board were referred to the Committee- on Missions, with instructions to- report a plan for consolidating thiß. mission with the Foreign Board. - The report of the committee on the appeal of the majority of Charters Congregation was taken np, andUfr. M’Lean addressed the Synod. A substitute was offered, resolving that tho appeal from the Commissioners of Chartiera Congregation be entertained, whioh was.agreed to. The report of tho committee on Funds was presented. ■ ’ - The report of the committee on the appeal of Bcv. R, Taggart, of the Presbytery of lowa, was taken up and cousidored. Aresolutioa was in-: troduoed that the Synod appoint a committee, • whose duty it should be to.procced to. Keokuk, lowa, and, try tlio case. Tho resolution was agreed to, and Messrs. Collins, George and: Hen-, derson, and elder Miller were appointed on said committee. Thereport of the Board of Domestic missions 'Was read by Dr. Rodgers, and on motion, adopt ed, and ordered to be printed. - The members of tho Board were re-elected for another term, with tho exception of Mr. M’Gay, in whose place Mr, Thomas Mitohell was elected. A communication was received from the Bible Sooiety of Canonsburg, containing a donation of $5O; which they desired to be appropriated to. the support of a missionary in Californio. Mr. Henderson was chosen to preside ot the Presbytery of Troy, at tho next meeting, in Sep tember. Reports from the committee on rules and over tures wero presented, which were, on.motion, laid on the table. A resolution of thanks to Wm. Bell, for the efficient manner in which ho had attended to his duties ns Treasurer of the Bynod's funds, was unanimously adopted, after.whioh thwSynod ad journed until 7 v. m. General Synod of the A. R. Church of, the Jfest. —The Synod met yesterday at 9 o’clock, A: M., and was opened with prayer; after which, the minutes were read and approved. - The Treasurer of tho Synod reported, wbiob report was referred to the Committee on Ac- It was stated that the collection which was.tn ken up after the delivery of tho dunuol mission ary sermon on Thursday evening amounted to $23,81, whioli sum was directed to be paid into the Homo Missionary fund. The report of the Select Committee on Sab bath School Literature was read—a paper in ref erence to a legaoy of Mr. -Thompson, of Mercer county,snd a memorial from Chicago and Illi nois, in regard to a supply of ordinances from Synod, which latter was referred to tho Commit tea on Missions. The preamble and resolution relative to licens ing probationers were taken op and indefinitely postponed. - ' Rev. Dr. Cooper, of the Associate Synod, ap peared, and informed the Synod that the Associ ate Synod had come to a final issue with.TCgard to the proposed Basis of tho Union. Bev. Dr. Cooper and Rev. Mr. Goodweller, of the Associate Synod, were invited to sit as.cor responding members with Synod- In the afternoon the Committee of Accounts reported a resolution, which was rejected, and the following substituted; : _ - Seeolved, That the claims of the licentiates who supplied the puipitof Rev. A resolution relative to tho compensation of those licentiates who supplied the pulpit of Mr. Gilmore, while ho was laboring os missionary ot Milwaukio, was referred to the Committee of Missions. - - The special committee on Education reported the following resolutions, whichwere adopted: Solved, That a Board of Publication bo es. tablished by this Synod, the business of which shall be to devise and mature a plan for ing the Church with a collection of Sabbath School Books, suited to the wants of the pres- That this Board take into consider ation the propriety of establishing a religious periodical adopted to the wants of the Sabbath Schools, and the practicability of accomplishing the object; to report on both theso subjects at the next General Synod. She left Louisville on - Thursday morning- and arrived at Cincinnati in fen hours and three minutes from the time of leav ing the wharf at Louisville; her time to Madison was three hours and twenty minutes. This is another triumph of Pittsburgh built boats over their more 'southern, and western neighbors.— The following is the time of the three boats. The driver was made ac quainted with the accident, but it was too late, the spirits had iledi and left nothing but a strong smell, not of brimstone, but old rye. Larceny.' —Sarah Coleman, acolorcd woman, and Rebecca Kelly, were arrested and taken before Aid. Major, on Thursday evening, charged with taking from the person, of George Webster, of Brownsvillo, the sum of thirteen dollars. It was stolen out of the house of Rosanna Kelly, on Webster strebt, where Mr. W. was stopping all night Sarali Colomon was committed, bnt Rebecca Kelly gave bail for her appearance at a farther hearing. . v Nearly Drowned.—SVe learn from the Enter prise that a little girl, the daughter of Mrs. Clouse* a resident of Federal street, Allegheny City, fell into a tub of water which was stand ing in the yard, a few days since. She remained there about fifteen minutes before she was dis covered, and was taken out in a very exhausted state. Dr. Brown was called in and through his instrumentality the child is now in a fair way for recovery. ■ Fire.—A fire occurred on Fleming street, in the 3d Ward Allegheny City, on Thursday night, by a woman who was attending to a sick person, letting some sparks fall from a candle that she - was holding, which set the bed on fire. The patient was immediately rescued, and the fire extinguished before it had done much damage. In the Senate to-day, the pending amendment was that making an appropriation of $BB,OOO a trip to the Collins Line instead of the present allowance, with the proviso that it shall bo in the power of Congress, at any time after Decem ber,lBs4, to terminate the arrangement, which was finally agreed to—yeas 27;- nays 19. After the amendments, the bill was ordered to be engrossed. The bill to enable the Government to deepen the passes of the Mississippi* was passed.: .Tho Senate then adjourned. House.—The llouße' yesterday ordered the bill donating lands to aid in.the construction, of the St. Joseph and Hannibal and St. Louis rail roads to be engrossed for. a third reading. . _ - To-day, the House resumed the consideration of the bill, when tho previous question on its passage was seconded, but Mr. Jones of Tenn. moved to lay the bill on the table, expressing the hope that it be kept there until after the Democratic Convention. The question was taken on the bill which pass ed; yens 103; nays 76; it appropriates 2,000,000 of aores.
