The owners of the boat yards, at Browns-, ville, cetimato their combined lessees at- about $7,000. Many of tho ebanties are surrounded, the water coming up to the Windows. “'The town of- Warrenton, near Steubenville, was depopulated, in consequence Of the high water. . - Sentence of JOagyeti. —Henry Kioggett, con-; rioted of mutderin the second degree, was brought into Court on Saturday, for-tim purpose of re ceiving hiß sentence. - Before sentencing the.pris oner, Judge - M’Clure made some remarks, in Which he stated that he (Klaggett,) was indebt ed to the efforts of his learned, counsel, for. his life—as it was clearly a case of murder. The j ary were, responsible for. such verdicts, which tended to lower tho dignity, of the law, and oheap en human life. The Judge stated that he felt confident, from what he had seen of the prison er,. that; unless God Almighty would work a change in bis heart, he would, when he was again nt liberty, imbrue his . hands in innocent blood. Slaggett maintained the utmost composure, while Judge M’Cluro pronounced the sentence of the law, which condemned him, to solitary confine ment in the walls of a Penitentiary, for the term of twelve years , The Flood at Wheeling. —Our- neighbors ap pears to have experienced a great deal of suffer ing bv the flood at that place, on Tuesday last. The Beaver-bridge passed the city on Tuesday, looking like a submerged warehouse, and lodged on Zane’a Island. '.The paper mill in 'West Wheeling-was carried away, and two men by the namo of Hays and Coffman were' drowned.
