not time to eoy all we wished about the La
il dies’ Festival, of Thursday. night,—concerning
. the splendid arrangement of-the tables, the taste
. ful: festooning,—the speech .of Mr. Wills, the
music by Byerly ? s hand, and- the numerous cir«
. cumstances which conspired to malts the evening
-. pass so pleasantly; 'and if we may: now ..be per
mitted, we would say, as all have said who were
-.; present, that it surpassed everything of the hind
which we have yet witnessed in Pittsburgh. Tho
number of persons in attendance was not much
short of a thousand. The nett proceeds have
not yet been caleulatod, but we think they, will
amount to at least $500:
County Jail. —There were four commitments
yesterday by Alderman Steel ond.sia by Aider
man Major. Among them we notice two:for lar
ceny,and one for assault and surety of the peace.
Andrew Cross was Tally committed for trial by
Aid. Major, oa.thecbargo.of larceny, preferred
against him some days ago.

There has been a heavy rain all day, and the
contemplated Kossuth prooession failed in can
sequence. iaHo delivered a speech in the For
mer’s Tobacco warehouse; last night, the largest
place in the city, which was very much crowd
ed. The burthen of his speech was complimen
tary to Kentucky and Kentuckians,- whom he
had often been told by spirits, werenoblo heart
ed and genertma?—bold and brave—and world
renowned for never missing their aim.
He then went into a znetapbisical desertation
■upon the difference between principle and policy-
The speech contains no new positions or views.
In the Ohio Legislature the resolution to re
fer the Maine Liquor Law to a vote of the peo«
