land. The Ladies’ Association, with a praise-,
worthy consideration, now offer an opportunity .

sons and daughters, are respectfully and urgent

The Recent Tire —On visiting the -scene of the
disastrous fire on Water Btreet, which was notic
ed in Saturday’s paper, we found the extensive
warehouses occupied by Johplrwin & Son, Jacob
Forsyth Jr, Campbell & Chess, and Edwards,
Morris-&. Co., entirely destroyed, and the build
ing occupied as the Custom House greatly
injured. ■ - .
Ihc fire appears to have originated in tho
warehouse of Campbell & Chess, though we have
heard no supposition as to its probable cause,—
The bnildings, which were -quite large, extend
ing bach to First street, were owned by >lr. John
Irwin: There-was.an insurance of $9,000-on,
thorn, which, will perhaps cover about half the
loss Campbell & Chess are heavy losers, os
•their insurance.policy expired übouttwo weeks
ago Soipe of the goods belonging to eacbhouso
weresaved, but all much damaged.
Tbe following is the list of insurance compa
