Tuesday afternoon, July 23,1848, the undersigned
4 / were'ealled Upon by*Messrs. Lippencou * Barr, to
witness an honest aud fair test of one Oi their Phmnix
Safes. The furnace being prepared, tne Safe was placed
Infeldethereof, with booksjimpere and some money; when
the door of the Safe was closedand the fire kindled at u
quarter post 2 o’ctock, and in a short time the Safe was
red hot T and continued till halfpastd o’clock, being about
four and a half hoars, when the committee expressed
their satisfaction that the time occupied with such heat
was sufficient. The furnace was then pnlled down,Safe
cooledrand door opened—«the books, papers and money
safe;" The neat was so great as to melroff ibe brass
monnimg& We therefore tflkepleasure in recommeud
iiirthese-Safes to the public, as being, in our judgment,
