ON Tuesday afternoon, J aly t 15,1846, the undersigned
were called upon by Messrs. Lipf encou A Barr, to
witness an honest and fair test of ouo oi their Phasnix
Safes- The furnace being prepared, tee Sale wu« placed
inside Utcreof, witlt bookß, papers and some money; when
the door of the Safe was closed and the fire kindled at u
Quarter past 2 o’clock, and in a short lime the Safe was
red hot, and continued till half past 0 o’clock, being abpul
four and a half hours, when the committee expressed
their satisfaction that the time occupied with such heat
was sufficient. The furnace was then pulled down, Safe
cooled; aiid door opened—the books, papers and money
safe. 'The‘heat was so great as to melt off the brass
