THABECBGIVING DAT. Thursday last having been.init Apart as a day of thanksgiving to the Author of Al Good for the many blessings surrounding us as ialtizqns of a State and of a great Confederation, nearly all business was suspended, during the entire, day; our churches were open to all who felt inclined to offer thus publicly their tribute of thanks; and able sermons were preached, in many of them, upon the importsnt duties of man to his Creatofand his fellow-man. A large portion of the community, whose days are ordi. narily spent in toil, away from home, enjoyed the society of their families in such a manner as freemen only can enjoy the influence of home; and others were early awake to spend the day amid sounds of jollity and festivity. ' Upon the whole, the day passed off very pleasantly.; and we have beard of no demonstrations that were not fraught with kindly feelings. The most marked event of the day, that has come to our knowledge, was at its close, wheri all those employed in the office of the Morning Post were made partakers of a most delightful and luxuriant supper, prepared for them at the Instance of Taoism Pricaxps, Esq. who has re cently become a partner in the establishment, At about nine o'clock in the evening, the whole force of the office repaired to "Oar House," where the table was spread in a style of. luxury that could not he exceeded in the country;— Venison, tame and wild Ducks and Turkeys, Lob sters, Oysters, Terrapins, the Finest Fish of the great Lakes,—every luxury, and almost every or dinary article for a meal and appendage to a table, was prepared. The worthy.host of " Our House," (Mr. Win. The last accounts that we have seen .of this . distinguished patriot left him at Buffalo, Prim whence he was expected to sail for Detroit on Saturday last. Great preparations were being made at Detroit to receive him ; and a torch light procession was arranged for Monday evening.— From this place he would go to Milwankle, where arrangements have also been made for his re ceiptlon ; and from thence to Chicago,—at which place a very large and enthtusiastio mooting had been hold with a view to make arrangements for a grand procession. The Polar Search A fresh effort is about to be made in a region hitherto untried to discover traces of this long missing expedition. From the remains found at Cape Riley, it is generally inferred that the ex. ploring 'vessels passed through Wellington Strait, beyond Vrhich,.and to the north of the Parry Islands, it is thought by many geographers and, navigators, that they would meet with a more' open or "Polar" sea. It is also believed that Franklin himself had resolved to endeavor to: reach the longitude of Behring's Strait by sail-: ing westward in such Polar Sea. On.these data. Lieut. Pim, a zealous and able officer, who luulf served on board Her blajesty's surveying ship- Herald, Capt. Kellett, in Behring's Strait, has formed the following plan of research : He conceives that when Frunklin reached the longitude of Behring's Strait, he would be foiled in all his efforts to get sonthwards through the one only passage from meeting with a great eatie and west barrier of ice and laud, and consequent ly he.may have struggled on along its northern shore further to the west, until he became icier.: trioably entangled in a region which, though ea..; tirely devoid of human beings, is supposed to abound in animals on which the navigators. could subsist. Lieut. Pins has In consequence suggested the following bold plan of research :' " He preposee to leave London on the 18th of November for St. Petersburgb, whence, if the project should meet with the approbation of the Imperial authorities, ho wishes to travel direct ly across Siberia to the month of the river Holy. ma. Thence, accompanied by two or three per sons only, he will proceed either to the islands of New Siberia, and others visited by Wrangle and Anjou, or in whatever other direction he may be led by the information obtained from . the Samoyedes, who roam towards the north in those parallels of longitude, there occupying himself in a thorough survey during two or more years. Thus is it shown, that even in England, the few last years have exerted a doep Influence. But it helped not the tyrant of Syracuse that he constructed his fa mous "Dionysiue• Ops," (Dionysins Ear.) In spite of it he was hurled from his throne. The Emperor of Austria must have learned some sad experience -during his =late visit to Italy. His troops, destitute of both food and pay, became so infuriated that they fell upon the supplies intended for the Kaiser and his stab and consumed them all. Their officers declared that they Gould no longer maintain die= cipline. The young sprig of an Emperor, there upon, forthwith 'seised his saddle-bags and packed off again to his beloved "Dentsehen." Of course, virtue has been taken prominently into view. They wish to rear a better race. But, for this purpose, money is required. Therefore, they have hit upon this cunning expedient that whoever shall agree to pay 1000 tbalers In cash, or 100 yearly, may receive the Order. Thus again the order Is to be had for money.
