Ammo Itotinsay.—Testerday. morning a dar
ing - mandrel not having the fear of the peni
tentiary before him, entered the house of Mra.
Suiten ItfcCtillough, on Penn street, and deliber
ately walked up into the chambers, helping
himself to such articles as he could find.—
Amongst the articles missing are a small mahog
any boy, containing many valuable papers and
some $250-in cash; also two gold guard chains,
two breast pins, and two setts of ear rings. A
young lady, a daughter of Mrs. McCullough, met
a man believed to be the thief, coming down
stairs, and the fellow apologized for his intrusion,
saying that he was looking for a Mr. Clark, who
he understood occupied a room in the third sto
ry. This'tale of course was trumped up for the
occasion, - The officers are now in pursuit of the
thief, and we hope they will be successfuL He
is small in stature, with whiskers, and wore a
brown coat and mixed gray pantaloons.
The same scoundrel entered the house of An
drew Willer, in Second street, below Ferry,
about ten o'clock on yesterday forenoon, and
knocked at the'door of a second story room where
a lady was lying in bed, owing to indisposition.
She, supposing it to be one of the family, bade
the person come in, when he opened the door
and inquired if any one spoke. The lady wished
to know who was there, when the fellow asked
if a man named Clark boarded there. On re
ceiving a negative answer he left the door ; but
it was some time before he left the house.
