NEW YORK ELECTION.
NEW Yon.s., Nov. 6
The returns of the election In New York still
continue vague, and contradiciory from there-
ported and probable-majorities. The-Tribune
thinks' the whig State ticket is defeated, with
the exception of. the Attorney General. Other
papers, judging from the same means, are of
contrary opinion. All agree, however, that the
Senate is decidedly whig. The House Is proba,
bly democratic.
SECOND DLSPATCH.
The returns at hand leave little room-to doubt
the election of the Whig State officers who were
supported by the Unionists; the others' are ex
tremely doubtfuL
ARRIVAL OF THE PROMETHEUS.

The steamer Independence, from San Fran
cisco October 4th, arrived at San Juan del Sud
on the Path, with-400 passengers and $160,000
in gold on freight.
