The Amer icans held a meeting that night. Many Califor nia passengers unwisely participated. The next morning, as a number of native boats were cros sing, they were fired into by the Americans, and it is supposed many were killed. The Natives became exasperated 'against the California passengers as well as boatmen, and commenced an indiscriminate attack upon all. They got possession of several pieces of ord nance from the Fort, and kept.up a constant firing during the day across the river, which was returned by the Americans with muskets. The Natives also attacked all California passen gem who came their way, and many were badly beaten and out with sabres, and houses in which they took refuge were - threatened with demoli tion. The excitement continued up to the. sail ing of the Cherokee, on the evening of. the:23d. FROM CUBA. CHARLESTON, Nov. 2. Isabel The steamer anived'on Saturday from Havana with dates to the 30th, and also from Key Neat to the 30th. We learn from Havana that Mr. Thrasher, late editor of the Faro Industrial, was on the 28th ult. committed to fortress Punta;, and placed in a damp, unhealthy dungeon, in solitary ,confine ment. He is charged with receiving letters in cypher, and with being connected with the late invasion. He denies all knowledge of these let ters. It was currently reported in Havana that he had been tried, convicted, and sentenced to the mines. The Savannah Republican contains a letter from Mr. Owens, consul at. Havana, stating that be has received no official notice of,his recall.— He requests the public not•tnleige.hins until he has been Hilly heard. He asks nothing elk the score of mercy, but conceives he has a right to. justice. U. S. CIRCUIT COURT.
