The reports from Manchester report a large
attendance on the 14th, and a fair amount of
business. Spinners and Manufacturers were
disposed to effect sales at lower rates.
ENGLAND.
The English papers are still filled with ac
counts of the Queen's visit to Manchester and
Liverpool. Her Majesty. reached Windsor Cas
tle on the night of the 11th inst.
Kossuth had not arrived in England up to the
14th, but was hourly looked for. At the last
advises from thence, the steamer-Mississippi had
not reached Gibraltar.
The flood of emigration from Great Britain,
and especially from Ireland, was beginning to
excite the most seriond apprehensions.
The Government demand (cis the repayment of
the moneys advanced to the Irish Unions during
the famine, is causing much stir throughout
Ireland, and some downright repudiation.
Thomas Alsop, the celebrated stock broker of
London, suspended payment on the 14th inst.
Ills liabilities are very heavy. -
The leading events of the last few days have
been the final closing of the Exhibition on the
10th lust. A much less form of even order was
observed than might have been expected. The
palace was immensely crowded, and the Closing
was rather tumultuous—distinguisbed from the
closing of previous days by partial attempts to
get cbeerefttr the Queen and Prince•Aiberty and
to perform "God save the Qtreen l ' in Chorus.
The award of prizes is to take place on the
1-ith. The latter day would in fact witness the
actual closing of the Exhibition, in presence of
the Royal Commissioners and Prince Consort,
and very probably the Queen herself, although
not in state. -A national anthem would - com
plete the ceremonial—a prayer of thanksgiving
having been previously offered up by the Bishop
of London.
It was confidently stated in Paris that on the
13th the President ,had actually accepted the
resignation of the uS.lnistry. The announcement
was made more startling by the further assur
ance that M. D. Girardin would be a member of
the new cabinet. These rumors caused a half
cent decline in funds. The immediate cause of
the resignation of the French cabinet.was.the
proposition on the part of Louis Napoleon to re
peal the electoral law of the 31st of May.
SPAIN.
The frigate Guatemala, from Havana, arrived
at Vigo, Spain, having on board 106 American
prisoners belonging to the Lopez expedition.
The Venus also 'Arrived with six prisoners, and
the Isabel Catholics with four. The widow of
Gen. Enna and Mr. Laborde, the late Spanish
Consul at New Orleans, had also arrived at Vigo.
The Queen of Spain had summoned the Cortm
for a prompt assemblage. •
PORTUGAL.
The Queen. of Portugal was on the 11th inst.
delivered of a still-born child•
There had been uo yellow fever at Oporto for

saved.
The propeller Atlas, belonging to the Detroit
and Ogdensburgh line, was wrecked in a severe
gale at the mouth of Grand River. We have no
particulars.

[SECOND DESPATOB.]
The propeller H. Clay, which was wrecked on
Thursday night at Long Point, Canada, had 80
souls aboard, who lashed themselves to the rig
ging, while the wreck was" lying side up in the
trough of the sea. Shortly after the deck went
off, and the hull turned over, carrying down all
except David Keefe and nine others, who got on
port of the wreck. Eight of these were washed
off during the nignt. The wind and sea contin
ued high. About 8 o'clock the brig John Mar
' tin hove in sight, bore down to the wreck, and
threw out ropes. Keefe caught one of these, and
after dragging one-fourth of a Mile, was rescued.
The other of the two, Capt. Callerd, formerly of
the Texas Navy, failed to get on board the brig,
and was drowned.
