Suicide.—Last evening Peter Miller, who had been attached to Dan Rice’s Circus, as a drum mer, went with a friend to Stacey’s and called for ice cream. While his friend was eating, he observed that Miller was fumbling with a paper, under the table, but supposed it was a bank note. It was the envelope of a vial of laudanum, which Miller sw.allowed unobserved, and which, not withstanding oil exertion was made to B&ve him, caused his death in about two hours. Rumor says that love had something to do with the affair. —Cleveland Sept. 19. Farmers mare your own Candles. —Take twelve pounds of alum for every ten poonds of tailow, dissolve it in water before the tallow is put in, and then melt the tallow in the alum wa ter, with frequent stirring, and it will clarify and harden the tallow, so as to make a most beautiful article, for either the winter or sum mer use, almost os good as sperm.
