ON Tuesday afternoon, July 25,1848, the undersigned*
were called upon by Messrs. Lippencott A Barr, to
witness an honest and fair test of one ot their Phcenix
Safe*. The furnace being prepared, tne Safe wa- placed
inside thereof, with books, papers and some money; when
the door of the Safe was closed and the fire kindled at
quarter past 2 o’clock, and in a short lime the Safe was
red hoi, and continued till half past 6 o’clock, being about
four and a half hours, when the committee expressed
their satisfaction that the time occapied with such heat
was sufficient- The furnace was then pulled down, Safe
coolcd, and door opened—the books, papers and money
safe. The heat was so great as to melt off the brass
mountings. We therefore take pleasure in recommend
ing these Sales to the public, as being, in out juderment.
