Manchester Plank Rood.—' This important work
is now hearly oompleted, and vehicles are pas
sing over it most of the distanoe. A very good
graao has been established, and the work has
been well performed. There hoB been a doable
track lam the whole way. , A drive over this
road in the evening will be truly delightful, onS
a stranger will find along its borders some of the
most beautiful residences in the vicinity of Pitts
burgh.
The St Clavr Street Bridge. —Mr. Alden yea
terday received a-letter from the Auditor Gene
ral- with a warrant of attorney to Messrs. Alden
and Woods, counsel for relator in the Bridge
case to prosecute to the utmoßt of their acuity
on behalf of the commonwealth, the bill m
equity relative thereto*, a copy of which had
previously been forwarded to the Auditor Gen
eral. .

The lunacy Case.— P. C Shannon, Esq., conn

jury yesterday in a lengthy and eloquent argu
ment The commissioner charged the jmy, wht>
after a short absence returned a verdict, that

presume, will be earned np to the Supreme

day against a man. named Nelson, for an assault
and battery.;: A number of witnesses were ex
amined. and the case dismissed at the cost ol
complainant It appears from the evidence that
no blows had been struck, although plaintiff
richly deserved a few.
Synod. —The Synod of the Associate Reformed
Presbyterians met yesterday in their church. It
was organized by appointing Rev. James Shields
Moderator. Rev. David R. Kerr was appointed
Clerk There was in attendance over 120.mro
istera and elders. The day was principally
occupied by the appointment of committees.
Pardoned. —Michael G Halloran has been par
doned by the Governor, and he is now out or
orison- This unfortunate young man has sut
ficiently atoned for his indiscretion, and we trust
that the lesson he has been taught will he or
service to him m the future.
