Resolved, That the Democracy of Pennsylva
nia, are now, and always have been, the warm
and steadfast friends of onr glorious Union, and
they will defend that Unien from the assaults of
its enemies, whether they come in the shape of
foreign emissaries or domestic foes.
Jfejolocd,, That as the Union is a combination
of many interests nnd a compromise of many
conflicting elements and opinions, those who seek
to weaken its bonds or impair the confidence of
the people in its permanenoy, aro unworthy the
name of American citizens.
Resolved, That the “compromise measures”
of the late session of Congress are necessary to
i carry out the spirit and the letter of the Consti
i tntion, and thoso who make war upon or wish to
i annul thoso measures, are traitore at heart.
Resolved, That we adhere to tho Democratic
doctrine of an economical administration of the
t Government, and in tho collection of a revenue
i neccssaiy for that purpose, we are in favor of
so adjusting the tariff as to secure protection to
! every interest of the country, the Bweat of hon
est labor being always an object of anxious care,
i Any amendment now required of the Act of
i 184 G; and which may heroafter be required we
| cheerfully confide to the next Democratic Con
gress. -■ •» ,
Resolved, That in Col. William Bioleu, the i
Democratic candidate for Governor of this Com
monwealth; we have an unflinching and devoted
friend of the Union; an intelligent and public
spirited citizen; an unfliching Democrat j a
Statesman and a Patriot.
Resolved, That we can ond we will elect Col.
Bioleu Governor, by an old fashioned Jackson
majority of 20,000 over tho present incumbent,
-William F. Johnston, tho candidate of the Mo
nopolists, Abolitionists and Natives.
Resolved, That Gen. Seth Cloveu, our candi
date for Canal Commissioner, possesses all the
qualifications necessary to mako an honest, nc
live and efficient officer, and wo hereby pledge to
him an earnest and undivided support, confident
of his election by a-triumphant majority.
. Resolved, That the Democratic State Judicial
Ticket Is composed of gentlemen in every re- 1
sped qualified to fill tho stations for which they i
wero nominated, with credit to themselves and
honor to the Commonwealth. As jurists, they
justly sustain exalted reputations, and as citi
zens, their characters aro above reproaoh. With
Messrs. Black", Campbell, Lewis, Gibson and
Loweie, on the Supremo Bench, Pennsylvania
can boast of the strongest Judiciary in the
United States. .
'Resolved, That the time has arrived when we,
ns Pennsylvanians, can, with propriety, assert
our long neglected and well established claim to
the candidate for the President of the United
States.
Resolved, That the Democracy of Allegheny
County having now as heretofore, full and cn
tiro confidence in the integrity and patriotism of
the Hon. James Buchanan, “Pennsylvania’s
favorite Son,” do again present him as our first
and only choice for tho Presidency.
Resolved, That our Delegates to tho State Con
vention to assemble at Harrisburg, on tho Fourth
of March next, be and they are hereby instruct
ed to use all fair and honorable means in their
power to -secure the nomination of tho Hon.
James Buchanan, ns the Democratic candidate
for President of the United States. ,
Resolved, That the Ticket this day nominated]
is worthy tho entire confidence and support of
the Democracy of Allegheny County, and the
eelegates hero assembled pledge themselves to
, use their strongest endeavors to secure its elec
