CITY INTELLIGENCE.
-.;The Excursion Trip Of the Duqueinelfre . Com";
Pony lo Philadelphia.-=After the fatigue and con
fusion consequent on a pleasure excursion of-tho
kind, we have set down,-and will tell our readers
and "the rest of mankind" a slight sprinklin' of
Nv h a t, we did se e, considerably mixed with what
we ought to have seen—provided, always, that
the said readers and "the rest of mankind" can
listen to a plain, unvarnished story. To be a
good listener 18 a great virtue; and, takingit for
greeted that it is one of which you are all pea
-sessed„,•we will proceed with our story.
We have previouslyrelated our arrival in Phi
ladelphia, on Wednesday, the 2d of July, and of
our stopping with Sam Miller, of the Chesnut
Street House—as clever and gentlemanly a host
as - ever traveler halted mith—and also on that
night of having, on invitation of E. S. Connor,
visited the Arch Street Theatre, where Miss Bar
rett, nuide her debut on the stage in the character
of Pauline; Connor sustaining the character of
Claude Melnotte. The piece throughout was
admirably.sdritained, and gave general satistac
tion. Miss B. certainly gives promise of a bril
liant future. -
After the Theatre was out—well l .—why of
purse we went home to our virtuous couches,
where we enjoyed a sweet and refreshing sleep,
from which we.awoke in the morning invigora
ted, and with an appetite calculated to make us
enjoy the promised pleasnres of the day. This,
according to the almanac, was Thursday the Sd,
and the morning set down when wo should sticit
the Mayor and old Independence Hall; but it
rained during the greater part of the day, and
the visit was postponed._ However, it cleared:
up for a short space of time, end, taking advan
tage of the 'sunshine, we visited the Mint,
through which .we were shown by the Superin
tendent, and found that each apartment was
adapted to a particular branch of fitting out the
tin;-in one they rolled oat the bare to the pro
per thickness, in another cut the metal the right
- airs, in another put the stamp on, and so on.
Aged men are chiefly engaged in the establish
ment, although the metal and coin are given to
them in such a manner that the slightest attempt
at dialtonesty.would be detected immediately.
From here we went to the hotel, and each was
permitted to enjoy himself during the day as
he saw proper, being, as we before, stated, rainy.
Determined to see all we could ace, the pretty,
gallant Col. Foster—as they 'call him there in
the newspapers—and myself took a stroll down
to the Delaware river to take a view of the ship
ping and whatever else might come within the
range of our observation. A heavy shower of
rain coming up, we took shelter on board of the
ship Saranak, a sailing packet to Liverpool,
where we endeavored to make ourselves as
agreeable as possible, to make up for our com
ing onlioard on our own invitation, in which we
succeeded admirably. We found Mr. Handlton,
the mate, the only officer on board, a gentleman
of the first water, and awhole smiled experienced
seaman. He treated us with all the hospitality
in his power, and kindly showed us through the
cabins,—the first of which, by the way, was
furnished in the most elegant style—hold, and
every part of the ship which he thought in the
least would interest us. To some of our re
marks about the boat, he replied, laughingly,-. 1 -
" Don'tkall this a boat; but when you go home,
tell them that you drank (producing a bottle,)
some of the best brand of English brandy on
board the ship Saranak." She leaves for Liv
erpool on , the 25th of this month; and we com
mend Hamilton and her—the ship—to any one
wishing a pleasant voyage to Liverpool. We re
gret much at not being able to avail ourselves of
his kind invitation to call on Monday.
After leaving the Saranak we came up town,
where weinet Cornelius Darragh, Ex-Att'y Gen'l.
. and another gentleman from Pittsburgh, whose
name we don't now remember; who accompanied
• 129 around to have a hearty shake of the hand
- with our Pittsburgh boys. Darragh is a MAN,
if the term implies, that with every other good
quality, ho is possessed of those rare accom
plishments of mind and person, which not only
eminently fits hith to adorn any position in which
fortune might place him, but to make those with
whom he mingles almost love him. During the
afternoon we met another Pittsbnrgher, R. Bid
dle Itoberts, Esq., a gentleman to whom we are in
debted for many kind attentions, and of whom
we shall hive occasion to speak again. At home
he is always Lind and polite ; but abroad he is
the very prince of good fellows.
At night we visited the Lodge Room on Third
street, a splendid edifice and elegant room, and
the reception we there met with is indelibly im
pressed on our memory, where we shall each
day turn to peruse it. Montgomery Lodge, No.
19, had not turned out her strength; but a host
of them were present, and their kind, warm,
hospitable, brotherly reception was well calcula
ted to' produce sensations we never experienced
before, There was present, gay young men,
ana:the graY headed„ venerable% old men ; and,
before - leaving, 'we klieir, thein all, if not their
names;their hearts; we felt its gushings in the
welcome greeting and hearty shake of the hand.
The attention of 'R. S. - and C. B. Wilson shall
never be forgotten. After leaving the Lodge,
we retired to , rest, robe refreshed for the 4th.-
- Of this, more anon.
Daring Assault.—On Saturday. evening, short
ly after 9 . o'clock, one of the most daring and
wanton assaults that we have heard of was per
petrated on a gentleman while walking along
the most public street in the city. A man nam
ed Lewis Dunn and his wife, strangers, were
promenading Wood street on Saturday evening,
about 9 o'clock, and when about midway be
tween Third:•nad Second streets, they were at
tacked by two ruffians, named 13111 Cahey and
David Robinson, who came up behind them, one
of them taking hold of Dann by the arm and
wheeling him Tartly round, when the other
. struck him a violent blow in the mouth, which
staggered and stunned him to such a degreethat
he was incapable of explaining the difficulty for
some tim'eurrfter. However, - several gentlemen
on'the opposite side of the street, to whom Dunn
and his wife crossed over, saw the whole affair,
and by their exertions the watchmen were ena
bled to arrest the villians.
The Mayor committed them yesterday morn
ing for a further hearing.
We hope •that such wanton and outrageous
conduct will be severely punished. The des
peradoes appeared to have no object in view
other than to gratify their brutal propensities ;
for after striking the man they turned upon
their heel and walked off with as much sang
froid as though they had accomplished the most
commendable object.
TILEATIte.—Mr. LEVI NORTa and his splendid
stud of horses, including Tammany and Spot
Beauty, together with a first rate company of
equestrians, have been engaged by Mr. Fear=
to perform a few nights at his establishment.
A large ring has been constructed on the stage,
and every facility for the carrying out of a well
constructed Menage has been afforded. A strict
attention will be paid to the costume of each act
rode, and families may visit this beautiful place
of amuseuient, with a full assurance that noth
ing will be offered to offend the taste of the most
fastidious. The firSt performance will take
place this evening.
Drowned.—On Saturday evening, about 6 o'-
clock, a young lad about 6 years of age, named
Parkerovhose father, a jeweler, is in California,
was drowned in the Allegheny river at the foot
of Et. Clair street, in attempting to jump from
one keel boat to another. The distance being
too great, he fell in. The body has not yet been
recovered. His mother is in the deepest dis
tress.; and persons were yesterday engaged in
diving for it, but without success,

which became so sore that I could not use 'lt, and in
1E44 mortification set in. I employed at' different drums,
-each physician of celibrity within my. reach; all told'
me that my ann must be amputated. From the shoul
ders to the fore arm, my arm was full of running sores,
come of them as large as. a fifty cent piece. I then tried
an Indian Doctor, who removed the inordlied flesh, and
stopped the mortification, but could not heal my arm.—
My strength, at this time, was completely cannoned
and my person much emaciated. 1 continued in this
state until the summer of &SIP, when I saw on &dyer
tisement of "Guysou's Yellow Doek and Sarsaparilla,"
which I rend attentively. and rent for oils bottle of the
article. After using it a few days, the discharges front
My arm increased, and assumed n light color, and less
offensive odor. I sent (or a second bottle, and while
using it I found my strength itierenting; and the dis
charges decreasing. I continsed using It until I had
used six bottles; though I felt myself perfemy eared
beforex used the sixth bottle. Since that time I have
not felt any pain in my arm; no sores have re.appeared,
and I have not a doubt that it is thoroughly cored, for I
can labor with it as well as ever I could.
