ON Tuesday afternoon, July US, t 849, the undersigned
were called upon by Messrs. Lamencolt & Barr, to
witness an honest and fair test of one oi their Phatnix
Safes. The furnace being prepared, toe Safe VC, °la c ed
inside thereof, with books, papers and some money; when
the door of the Safe was closed and the fire kindled at ,
quarter past tf o'clock,' and in a short time the Safe was
red kot, and continuedtill half past o'clock, being about
four and a half hours, when the committee expressed
their sa.isfaction that the time occupied with such heat
was ellit,tent. The furnace was then pulled down,Safe
cooled, and door opened—the books, papers and money
safe. The heat was so great as to melt off the bram
mountings. We therefore take pleasure in recommend
ing.these Sates to the pui.lie, as being, in our judgment,
