It is not the remedy of a day, got up for the sole purpose of making money; but, one, which we conceive, will continue to be used when all nostrums have beer forgotten. The PETROLEUM is a Natural Remedy, elaborated in the depas of the earth by a power and agency that laughs to scorn all human competition. It is our duty, when we write about a medicine, that we write satrru—tbat we say nothing calculated to deceive those who may trust our word or pat confidence In our statements. The sick are very apt to catch at any thing that promises relief from dis ease. A story can hardly ho too highly wrought to an. awer the object of gulling or humbugging some of them. Now, we do not desire to do this ;.we are anzious only that the troth In relation to our Remedy should he told, in order to secure for it a reputation far exceeding any single article of the omens medico. Dr. PEREIRA, in his famous treatise on " Food and Di et," published by Fowlers Jr. Wells, New lork, page 35, states the same great fact, and describes the method of preparation. There are few higher authorities than Dr. , Pereira. , Dr. Costae in his valuable writings on the " Physiolo. gy.of Digestion," observes that "a diminution ofthe due quantity of the Gastric Juice is a prominent and all-pre veiling cause of Dyspepsia;' and he states that "a dis anguished professor of medicine In London, who was severely niMetcd with this complaint, finding everything else to fail, had recourse to the Gastric Juice, obtained from the stomach of living animals, which proved com pletely enccessful." Dr. Gummi, umber of the famous works on " Vegeta ble Diet,".says: " It is it remarkable fact in physiology that the stomachs of animals, macerated in water, im part to the fluid the property of dissolving various anti. ales of food, and of effecting a kind of artificial diges tioa of diem in no.wise different from the natural digest lye process," • • Dr. SUEDE'S great work, the "Chemistry of Man "(Leo & Blanchard Phila , 184 G, pp. 3111-2) says: "The discos.. 1 cry of PEPSIN forms a new era in the chemical history of Digestion. Front ' that up to the present time, we have covered with tin the roofs , of the finest and most, costly, buildings-that have been erectedita this county: We have given our views on a previous occasion on the stiperior advantage of Tin over. iron, as a covering. for , houses.- And time,' the, great tester of allthings, has but too clearly proven the correetnessof our opinion. . - • . Againiif we place Tin i uma.position, with Slate as a covering for !muses . sve think that tin will hear a favo rable comparison, with some decided advantages iliese advantages are, that when tin is used the roof can he made much ilatter—thereby saving materials in , the lengthof rafters, brick in the gable •ends—making tbe house easy of access in case of a fire, and showing a better finish, and appearance.- Also, when tin- is used the gutters are worked fn, thereby saving the extra and heavy expense, for copper gutters, copperiLashings;&e., —things indispensible on slate roofs. If further reasons were deemed necessary, we could offer the experience of our eastern cities in proof what has been -auvrizieed, as it is a well known fact that New:York and othcreast ent cities very generally prefer even tin for, their most - -costly and splendid buildings; notwithstanding they have a full supply of slate at their doors: , With these remarks we will leave the subject withtheselmerested„ and will take pleasure in'giving further information when called" onfebl7. • ' JOHN DUNLAP c oed O, . •- corner - Market and Sec tits . . , Stooped Shoulders.
