PETROLEUM OR ROCK OIL j
TT is not more than one year ago since this great rem*
;l edy was brought before the publlCf for tlio relief and
care of disease. Its great powers to heal, have, since
then, become flilly appreciated by the-commumiy, and
we allege that the longer it Is tried the more certain will
its great fame spread. It is not the remedy of a day,
got up for the sole parpose of making money; bat, one.
which, we conceive; will continue to be used when all
nostrums have been forgotten. The PETROLEUM.-Ib
a Natural Remedy, elaborated mlho depths of the earth
by a power and agency that laughs‘to scorn all human
competition. It Is our duty,.when-we wnle about a
medicine, that we write tbutii—that we say nothing
calculated to deceivelhose who may trust our word or
put confidence in our statements. The sick are very
apt to catch at any Uung.that promises relief from dis
ease. A story can bardtv be too highly wrought lo an
swer the objectof gullingor humbugging some of them.
Now, we do not desire to do this; wo are anxious only
that the truth in relation to our Remedy should bo told,
in order to secure for it a reputation far exceeding any
single article of the matena medico. Plain, unvarnished
facts—facts ihatmay be ascertained in our own city and
neighborhood, bear ample testimony in: favor of the Pe
troleum. „

If the-qnestion of Tin Roofing wasnew, or just brought
before the notice of this, community for the first time*
vre wodld considerthai the impottarice, of the subject*
would'justify us in extending our views on. its superior,
advantages.. This, however, is hot the case. -We shall
therefore, confine ourselves to a few remarks. \On the
6th day of June,lB44, (nearly seven. years.ago,) we iln-
Ished our first job of Tin Roofing in this place. - From
.that up 10 thepresentiiuie, we iavc covered with tin

Theae-advantages are, that when tmisuaed the roof .can:
