Baron LiEßio, in hla celebrated work on Animal Chera

the Gastric Juice, may be readily prepared from the mu*
cons membrane of the stomach of the calf, in which va
rious articles of food, os meat and eggs, will be so toft*
cued, changed and digested, just in the same manneras
they would be in the human stomach.”
Dr. Perkiba, in his famous treatise on “ Food and Di
ey’published by Fowlors A Wells, New \ ork, page 33.
stales the same great fact, and describes the method of
preparation. There arefew higher authorities than Di
Pereira. ,
Dr. his valuable writings on the “ Physiolo
gy of Digestion,” observes that “ a diminution of the due
quantity of the Gastric Juice is a prominent and all*pre
▼ailingc&ttse of Dyspepsia;” ana he states Bull “a dis
lingitishedjirofescor of medicine in London, who was
severely afflicted with this complaint, finding everything
else to rail, had recourse to the Gastric. Juice, obtained
from the stomach of living animals, which proved com
pletely successful.” - ...
Dr. Orajiah, author of the famous works on “ Vegeta
ble Diet,”. says: “ Jt iua remarkable fact in physiology

part to the fluid the property of dissolving various arti.
cles of food, and of effecting a kind of artificial diges
tion of them in no wise different from the natural digest
Ivo process,” . .
Dr. Smoß’s great work, the “ Chemistry of Man.” (Leo
A Blanchard. Phila., 1540. pp. 321*2) says: “ The discov
ery of PEPSiN forms o new era in the chemical history
of Digestion* From recent experiments we know that
food is dissolved as rapidly in on artificial digestive
fluid, prepared from Pepsin, os it is in the natural Gas*
trio Juice itself.” ' : _
Professor Btraousott, of the Jefferson College* Phila
delphia,in his greatwork on Human Physiology, devotes
more than fifty pages to an examination of this subject.
His experiments with Dr* Beaumont, on the Gastric
Juice, obtained from the living human stomach and from
animals, are well known; “In all cases.” he says, “di
gestion occurred ns perfectly in the artificial as -in tho
natural digestions.”

Aparty insured for the whole term of life may at any

Itbasbecomc customary in the Atlamio citiesforcon--
cregauons to insure the lives of their Pastors, and. on
Christmas or New Year’s day to make the family a pro-,

of showing their regard for their Minister, whose salary,
in very many ca®es is scarcely equal to his immediate
wants. To the manof family,at his death, it isauon
solution beyond expression to .know that tus hcipic?3
little ones are thus provided for. - ■ . . f
