* On the morning of the 3d of March, two steam
ere, the Santa Claxa-and Hartfardj-lying at the cenv
trial whatf, were almost entirely , destroyed by firo.
The Santa Clara cost $lO,OOO, and is almost a total
loss, there being no insurance on her. The Hart
ford ia damaged to the extent of $lO,OOO. All os
board.were asleep when the fire brake out, and the
bodies of two men were found burnt to a crisp, and
another is raissjag.. The Clerk of one of the boats
is dangerously injured, and the 2d Clerk 7 badly
burned. The origin of the fire is unknown.
Lynch lawhas commenced its operations at last.
A mao who had shot another in tho streets at Sac
• ramento City, was caught and executed—-the -victim
was ah Englishman.
. The Museum Hotel, at San. Francisco, the New
Bedford Hotel, the Shamrock Hooso and other build'
ings, were destroyed by fire on the 2d ofMarch.—

Mr. Winchester, editor of ihe Pacific Nows, has
