Major and CfficerFOx having got an intimation a few

going ;4om> the nver, very ingemonsly concluded
to have s’roan Introduced to thorn who .was to rep

accordingly done. A fen .days since this gentleman
hadhimself introduced to Austin and Gardiner, nod
immediately entered into, negotiations for the pur

insnnb.a atyle as to make it pass; and to test thiß
mstter they were to lot him have one note to show
to blnpartuerwho was in -Pittsburgh. They gav s
him a BlOnoteoulhe Miners’ Bank of.Pottsviile so
a epecimeu.andbe brought -it over to his partner,
Who happened to he an .officer, and after examina

back asdftatbd.that it answered admirably, and yes
terday morning waa the time appointed when he and
his partner woold come over and take 3500 of the
money,'Wbich they were to get at 20centa on the
dollar.
The scheme worked well thus far, and yesterday
morning officers Fox, Pitamorrls, Thompson and
McCoy.went over to Allegheny City, and. after the'
gentldman who waa eoing.. to purchase had comple

a signal,.when.tbe,officers cams in and arrested the
whole party, so as to Tally carry onl the deception.
Anatin and Gardiner were brought before Aid. Ma

3400. There were 8800 In tens on the State Bank

•stated that he had sold on the day before 81000 to a

SiWco tho arrest-of these men, Christian Hciber
has made information before Ald.Major that Austin
had passed a counterHsit 010 bill on .him, some Umo
in January last, in Stewartstown.
Tbo Banks and Brokers of ibo city, and Indeed
tho whole community, aro deeply indebted to Mr.

and arresting these men who are flooding our com.

executed in manner so well calculated to deceive

These gentlemen receiving no reward whatever,
end-no salary for thus ferreting out and bringing to

should compensate-thcm-libera'lly (tar the loss of
time and considerable expense' to which they have
